Introduction

According to the NSSO data, there are 16.5 million service sector enterprises in India, which employ about 85.52 million workers. Out of the 16.5 million service sector enterprises, 85% are rural worker of the 85.52 million workers.

Mahatma Gandhi was not in fever of heavy large industries, the reason is the large industries can’t provide employment as much as rural industry can provide.

And we are know that India’s first need is Employment Generation.

Meaning and Definition

Rural Industry means any industry located in rural area, population of which does not exceed 10,000 and it produce any goods or services with or without use of power in which the fixed capital investment per head does not exceed Rs. 15,000.

Definition:- The person who started his business at rural area with available resources called rural entrepreneur and that type of firm is called rural enterprise.

Advantages

1.) Rural industry can produce the best quality product.

2.) Specialized components can be produce at less cost in the small scale industry.

3.) The rural industries can take advantages of Country’s resources, local skill, and local experience and cattle in the local market.
