Economic trends (1)

5

Growth of new IBCs:• time of two digit-growth is over • decreasing growth rates: between 2-3% in Europe and 8% in Asia• growth factors

demand in developing and emerging countries (fork lift use is prerequisite!)

increasing demand of chemical and petrochemical products (around two thirds of all filling goods for IBCs)

Dr. Jürgen Bruder 15th ICIP, Vancouver, 3-5 June 2015

Note: Exchange rates can exert positive or negative influence on the demand for IBCs as export packaging

Page 6: Presentation bruder

Economic trends (2)

6

Growth of reprocessed IBCs:• strong expansion of reconditioner capacities, especially in North

America and Europe• disproportionate growth compared with new IBCs

Number of manufacturers• despite continued growth: number of manufacturers is not

(significantly) increased – sign of a mature product

Competition • trend towards commoditization – increased competition is a

consequence • IBC becomes more and more a mature industrial packaging like

steel or plastic drumsDr. Jürgen Bruder

Trends based on logistics (1)

7

Dr. Jürgen Bruder 15th ICIP, Vancouver, 3-5 June 2015

Position in the logistic chain

• structure of the logistic chain relatively stable and intact• no significant cannibalization between IBCs and drums anymore

IBC as storage container• usage as storage container: additional benefit for users but also

risk in crisis times compared to drums

Trends based on logistics (2)

8

Relationship IBC ↔ ISO-Tank

varying usage depending on costs

Trends based on logistics (3)

9

Relationship Composite IBC ↔ Flexibags

partial substitution of IBCs by flexibags for non-UN filling goods

Dr. Jürgen Bruder 15th ICIP, Vancouver, 3-5 June 2015

Relationship Composite IBC ↔ Stainless Steel IBC

partial substitution of metal IBCs by Composite IBCs

Technical developments: examples

11

New designs for specific applications• food/aseptic packaging• products for pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry • high viscous products• products with high density (e.g. > 2,4 g/dm³)

Improvement of usability • better stacking performance by pallet design• higher conductivity e.g. of valves • increased robustness• better emptying; minimization of residues
