The rainfall can get up to 1.6m or it can get as much as 9.1 of rain a year! There

is no dry season in the rainforest. If there is a dry day it won’t last very long!

Each month 100 mm of rain usually never

escapes the rainforest environment!

The Amazon jungle is the largest tropical rainforest in

the worldThe total rainfall for the year is between 1700 and 3000 mm. www.freeimages.co.uk

The rainforests of Asia stretch from Thailand and Burma in the north to Malaysia s tropical rainforests

and the islands of Java and Borneo in the west. Bangladesh has the largest area of wet, tropical forests

in the world.

Central Africa is the world's second largest rainforest! To the south east, the large island of

Madagascar did have a rainforest once upon a time but now it has not many trees left so it is destroyed

The Amazon jungle is the largest tropical rainforest in the world

The largest temperate rainforests are found on the Pacific coast of North America. They stretch from

Oregon to Alaska for 1,800 miles.

There are little Rainforests such as small areas in the United Kingdom, Norway, Japan, New Zealand,

and southern Australia.

Bougainvillea's are almost impossible to kill once they are fully grown.

.

.

At an early stage in a pot or ground they have very sensitive roots and you have to be extremely carful when taking them out

of the pot and planting them. If the plant receives too much water, the bud in the middle of

the flower will drop off and in its place a thorn will grow.

Bougainvillea's are tropical climbing plants /trees known for their gentleness and vibrant colours. They are one of the most

popular tropical vine plants grown today! The bougainvillea is a vining plant that grows up to28- 30 feet tall. The plant can be pruned to be grown as a tree or

bushThere are many different types of bougainvillea’s colours

such as white, cream, pink, purple and orange

The Jambu fruit has a shiny, thin skin which varies from white to bright pink.

About 1 inch long and 1-1.5 inches wide, they are shaped somewhat like a pear with a narrow neck

The red Jambus are the smallest fruit, sweet and juicy, with the white ones being very acidic and sour

Southeast Asian rainforest animals, like monkeys, gibbons and jambu fruit doves, rely on jambu as part of their diet.

Growing wild, the jambu is also cultivated throughout Southeast Asia and is not endangered.

The flesh is white or pink, slightly fragrant, crisp and juicy with a faint sweet flavour.

The fruit has about 1-3 seeds which, together with the roots, are considered poisonous.

Toucans eat a lot of fruit and they also

eat bird eggs, dead insects, and any type

of tree frogs. The toucan eats by

chopping the fruit off the tree with its

sharp beak, throwing it up high in the air,

and gulping it down.

DIET

THEY ARE ENDANGERED

DESCRIPTIONThere are about 40 different kinds

of toucans. They change in size from 15 cm to a bit over 65 cm, But the males and females are the same

colours. The feathers on the largest toucans are often black with

splashes of white, yellow, and red Toucans are known for their large,

bright, yet light weighing beaks. The colour of the beak is usually black,

blue, orange, red, green and yellow. A toucan's beak is sharp and has

knife like edges. The beak is used to squash the many kinds of fruit and

berries he eats. He may also use the knife like edges to tear off parts of

bigger fruits.

The feathers, or th

e beak, or anything on

the toucan is usually so

ld for money or

made into a product. Humans h

ave

destroyed their b

iomes to catch

them. The Toucan is very sp

ecial to the

rainforest because they help to destro

y

pips from the foods th

ey eat.

Poison arrow frogs are known for their amazing bright colours. There colours are used to warn and scare off predators that they are

dangerous and poisonous. Some scientists think that the amusing pattern of the frogs also act as camouflage among the forest shadows.

They eat mostly on spiders and tiny insects such as ants and

little termites which they find at the bottom of the rainforest floor using their wonderful

vision and their sticky tongues to pick them up and to eat them

with FUN FACTS1.Just three types of Poison arrow Frogs are dangerous to humans

2.Scientists think that the frog gets all of their poison from all of the insects they eat in the wild

3.They may live for at least 15 years4.Unlike other amphibians the Poison dart frog is a bad swimmer because they live

on the ground or in trees5.Blood in the frog are being investigated because they think that they can be used

as muscle relaxers, pain relieves and appetite reducers

More than 2,150 different species of butterflies are found in the rainforests of South America.

An area of a rainforest the size of a football field is being destroyed each couple of seconds.

The trees of the tropical rainforest are so big and cloudy that when rain is falling it takes at least 10

minutes to reach the ground.

In the moist rainforests of South America, sloths move so slowly that algae are able to grow in their

fur!

The forests of Central Africa are home to more than 8,000 different species of plants.
