Tourism as a tool for the Sustainable Community
Development in Jequitinhonha Valley
Identified Problem: Absence of alternatives for income generation in the region in which women, as their husbands spend months away working, have to take care of children and elders by selling their handcrafts (ceramic mainly) and cultivating subsistence agriculture.
Project Goals: Raízes has diagnosed the situation and mobilized the community to create tours that could bring visitors, income and a better quality of life. The work was conducted in win-win bases and transparency was always a premise. The commercialization and conduction of the groups was made by Raízes and after each group the results were monitored. Ingoing Project. It has started in 2012.
