Tom can influence how training can be delivered to maximise effectiveness and
efficiency…
Jeevan’s Solution – L&D Career POVAnalysis
Classroom learning is shrinking and won’t go back to good old days.
Elearning is an alien skill but more jobs require it.
I love facilitation and would hate to spend a lot of time on the computer.
I have the social capital to suggest changes in the company
Proposed Solution
Meet company, learner and my own career requirements.
Build a business case for a flipped classroom and include storytelling to keep engagement.
Onboarders watch videos before they join.Shrink workshop to 1 day.
Hire a consultant to help with set up. Quickly replicate model for other courses . Get kudos and keep job.

Why is instructor led training diminishing?
Business pressures
• not enough time• Want more flexibility• Learner locations• Consistency and quality• Increased speed to competency• Need to meet general and specific business area needs

• On line learning• Virtual Instructor Led webinars• Performance support tools• Social learning

Trends & Forces
• OPEX pressures!
• Geographic spread – too few in 1 location to make ILT viable
• Increasing personal use of tablets & devices at work
• High focus on buildingcompetence
• Appetite for VILT increasing• Increased creation / consumption
of ‘tutorials’ / short video • Most strategic / high volume
programs are ‘blended’ – pre-requisite content
• Accreditation programs – mix of completions & demonstration of learning
• Learners still ‘prefer’ classroom environment
• Increase in global learning solutions

ENTREPRENEURSHIP
• $10,000 > $1,000 pp
• Broader reach
• VCT or ILT available
• 12,000 PMs globally
Benefits & challenges
• Wider inclusivity – reaching more
• Packaged learning can better support strategy & give learners ‘focus’
• Value in knowledge based on-demand learning ‘tutorials’ – IF done well
• High value placed on interaction & knowledge sharing / networking in live sessions
BENEFITS
• To do it well – heavier investment in ID up front
• Heavier support from L&D function for blended learning – resource implications
• Monitoring completion of learning path components(some outside LMS)
• Can require learners to do modules they don’t really need
• Slow progress to acknowledge that learning > classroom

LET US TALK TO THE PANEL AND YOU
What has been the status (volumes/structure) of ILCL in your organisation? How much has been replaced by online learning?
Does the flipped classroom model allow us to retain the nutrient value of ILCL while enriching the learner experience?
Can we use storytelling to make workshops more engaging and effective ? Are some themes such as soft skills more appropriate for storytelling than say compliance ?
What happens to all those ILCL facilitators who have built facilitation skills over the years? Is there an orderly transition?
