Having obtained a double first class honours degree in Marine Biology & Oceanography Richard became a Chartered Accountant qualifying with what is now Ernst & Young in 1990. He has had a variety of roles in industry and has been a finance director of several companies ranging from a division of General Electric with a turnover of around £120 million all the way to a management consultancy he owned with two colleagues which had a turnover of under £1 million. He has experienced business in good times and bad and has spent his career so far at the sharp end – where it can hurt – which has given him a real commercial edge.Richard has a passion for helping to bring financial clarity and understanding to the smaller enterprise and now runs The Mobile FD which provides them with outsourced finance directors. This allows entrepreneurs to efficiently and effectively understand the performance of their business with a strategic partner at a sensible cost.

Richard also believes that an understanding of, and comfort and confidence with the numbers generated by business is a vital part of an entrepreneur’s armoury which allows them to make better decisions and enhance performance. He runs intimate workshops tailored to the business owner to demystify and enlighten and introduce delegates to the power of the numbers they already have in their organisation.

In his personal life Richard remains enthusiastic about the marine environment and enjoys sailing and diving when time allows. He has two teenage children who help to make that available time scarce!
