BackgroundMark delivered an Intelligent Automation / Robotic Process Automation (RPA) fundamentals session in which he outlined what RPA is and what it is not.
Through use case application, he demonstrated how this technology can drive faster processing and lower costs.
Background
A key first step in examining RPA is to understand the types of solutions that can be implemented, the problems that have to be solved on the way, and the benefits that are now being realised.
1RPA provides
a viable alternative to Business Process Outsourcing (BPO)
to offshore, low-cost countries
2The technology is applied to
parts of a process with humans performing key elements
3 RPA is not screen scrapping or macros
4 Robotic (virtual) labour costs are approximately 1/3 the
price of an offshore full-time employee
5Important to select processes
that lend themselves most easily to automation – Strong candidates include processes
with an acceptable % of exceptions and limited
variation
6Five models exist to support
you on a RPA journey: Consulting, Outsourced
Provider, Tool Provider and Solution Provider
