Use Salesforce for everything. Check it every day. Make sure you know what’s going on, who’s hit their target, which team needs encouraging. Use it to be connected. Use it to know your people - who moves the needle?

Do Net Promoter Score with your customers. Don’t delay, don’t set up a project, don’t hire a consultant. Just do it, do it now. Do it every 6 months, block your week out to read every single response as it comes in - live. Respond to every single customer personally, no template emails. Listen and learn. They are right, you are wrong.

Embrace and promote glassdoor.com. Encourage your employees to review you anonymously. Read every piece of feedback as it comes in. Listen to your people, they will speak the truth. Understand, empathize, explain and above all, act!

Understand social. Yes it’s complicated. Yes it’s ephemeral. Yes it’s unproven. But it is now and without it you’ll be confused and lost. Forget dinner, forget the TV, the game, the movies, whatever - tonight you need to be online, you need to be learning about social.

Get the whole company video conferencing, including you. Let people see each other, laugh with each other, connect with each other, let them connect with you. Not occasionally, but every day. Use Skype, FaceTime, LifeSize - whatever you can. Make it happen.

Congratulate every sales person on every deal. Email them, tweet them, phone them. Share their success. Make them feel like superheros - they are. They move your needle.
