Save a Tree …

In Save a Tree … with Adobe Export, I talked about converting PDF documents to Word documents so that you can edit out the stuff you don't want to read again.

But what do you do when the PDF document is locked?

The Problem

A Skill I’m Glad I Have

I’m a very efficient typist. I first learned to type in high school, and I attended

business school after I graduated.

I can still see a room full of us, typing for all we were worth, taking time test after

time test on manual typewriters.

The typing teacher would walk around the room and admonish students to cut

their finger nails.

Okay, who remembers sticking keys, eraser crumbs and the carriage bell going

‘ding’?

I’ve worked as a secretary and a

transcriptionist, so suffice it to say that I’ve

typed millions of characters over my life.

The computer keyboard has replaced manual

and electric typewriters, thank goodness!

The last timed test I took was about 15 years ago when I entered a typing

contest. It was the first one I had taken on a computer keyboard.

I didn’t win, but I still managed 75 words per minute with 2 errors and felt

good about it.

When I’m studying, I always type my notes. I keep Word open so that type up anything that I feel

will be useful later. I can then copy the notes to other documents on a

specific topic – blogging, SEO, or whatever. I print those pages and put them in a notebook so

that I can quickly refer to them when I need to remember something or get some new ideas.

But What If You Hate to Type?

Because typing is so effortless for me, I never considered voice

recognition software.

I first purchased Dragon Speech Recognition Software to help me

with the transcription work I was doing at the time.

After I closed down that business, I found all sorts of things I could do

with it. I bet you can, too.
