WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?
1 CREATE AWARENESS
@kodel
• Use examples to ensure people think about what they are doing
• Don’t start with rules & regulations
2 SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY
@kodel
• Not only what employees can post• Also what the employer can post (opt in)
(no tools needed. It’s about agreements that are made after discussions with staff)
3 NO TWEET EVENTS
@kodel
• For every company party, make clear if there will be tweeting or not
• Alternative: No Tweeting after midnight
4 OPT-IN FOR PROMOS
@kodel
• Ask for volunteers when a camera crew hits the work floor
• Announce beforehand that cameras will be present
4 PROVIDE INTERNAL NETWORKS
@kodel
• Ensure your intranet is participative: Yammer or (a good) Sharepoint site
• If not, people will create Facebook groups • Ensure the rules of the internal network
are clear (= no sharing externally)
SOME TECHNOLOGY TIPS
Youtube: unlisted video’s
@kodel
(unlisted playlists are however not supported)
Flickr: guest pass
@kodel
Yammer: instant intranet
@kodel
Allows for more control than closed Facebook groups

@kodel
