AsTransformationalLeader

• Like a transformational leader, he focuses on "transforming" others to help each other, to look out for each other, to be encouraging and harmonious, and to look out for the organization as a whole.

• At Apple, he is seen as a leader whose brilliance and idealistic vision of "providing computers as a tool to change the world," drew other talented people to him

• His Leadership creates valuable and positive change in the followers.

• In his leadership, he enhances the motivation, morale and performance of his follower group. Some people also categorize him as a charismatic leader.

The news of Steve Jobs illness wiped $20 billion off Apple’s share price. Some things are self evident: that anyone with a heart would wish the man well. And that it’s almost impossible to think of another individual who has been such a prominent charm for a brand. Also clear is that his gifts as strategist, product and design driver make him much more than a figurehead

Page 13: Steve jobs leadership role

• Steve Jobs was raised as a prime example of this. The personal computer by Apple, the Macintosh, which uses a mouse and a simple graphic user interface (GUI) was actually a concept Jobs “borrowed” from Xerox’s innovation centre in Silicon Valley.

• The Macintosh was a success but Jobs was hated in Silicon Valley, a place which prides innovation above all else. The act of appropriating his idea from Xerox meant Jobs risked his reputation for a product that worked.

• Jobs' negotiation strategies are very well reflected in his general persona. 'Tactics' per se will not land anyone in his shoes. He has an unwavering confidence in everything he's doing, and his track record very much speaks for him. He makes things happen and, definitely in business, nobody can argue with results. At the same time he carries himself with an air dignity and humbleness in the public eye, which is a manner of 'social aesthetics'. He knows how to appeal to his audience.

Components of Steve’s Coaching

• Strive For Excellence: • Jobs’s greatest skill was product development.

• Blend Art and Science: • In developing his products Jobs always had a

unique way of blending artistic touch with the technological workings of the Apple hardware. This lead to the beautiful, simple and unique look of the Mac, IPod, IPhone and IPad. This was his way making the product desirable and unique for the consumer.

Components of Steve’s Coaching

• Give Honest Feedback: • Steve Jobs was brutally honest, many times to

a mistake.

• Don’t Chase The Money: • Despite being one of the wealthiest men on the planet

Steve Jobs did not do anything for the money. He came from middle class, lived homeless as a college drop out and never looked to maximize his profits at Apple or Pixar. In spite of this, he became a billionaire.  In 2010

his salary was 1$ according to the IRS.

Components of Steve’s Coaching

• Produce Something Life-Changing:

• Jobs marketed every product Apple put out as revolutionary. He promised potential consumers that buying their product would be a life-changing experience and most of the time he was right.

Components of Steve’s Coaching

• Leave A Legacy• Growing up admiring companies like

Hewlett-Packard that left behind a strong company identity and legacy, inspired Jobs to do the same thing at Apple. He wanted to create a business that would carry on his drive for perfection and passion for customer-friendly products long after he was gone

•No major work that I have been involved with has been work that can be done by a single person or two people, or even three or four people... In order to do things well, that can't be done by one person, you must find extraordinary people.

• Through his incredible vision and drive, Steve Jobs forged together what is today the most valuable company in the world, and, along the way, he revolutionized many industries and facets of how we live. And, for his many accomplishments, his name is often synonymous with the words "entrepreneur" and "visionary". So, it should come as no surprise that he was rightfully named the #1 entrepreneur of our time in a list put together by Fortune.
