Commercial real estate lending expected to grow in 2017, but not as robustly as before
• The recent Mortgage Bankers Assoc. Commercial Real Estate Finance survey indicated that 63% of commercial mortgage firms expect to grow originations in 2017, this is down from 90% last year.
• The greatest “uncertainty” is what regulatory changes a Trump administration may produce; many are hoping for a reduction of items placed into law by Dodd-Frank, but some just want simple stability.

• CoStar analysts predict that suburban and second-tier office markets will outperform CBD and major markets in terms of rent growth in 2017; accelerating a trend that started in 2016.
• Investors making acquisitions in 2017 should consider these suburban and second-tier markets closely as they typically trade at higher cap rates and thus may provide higher yields and total returns.
