Swami Vivekananda’s Speech at

Chicago

• The invitation of the conference was actually given to Bhaskara Sethupathi, Raja of Ramnad to attend the World Parliament of Religions at Chicago.

• But he decided and encouraged Swami Vivekananda, and said he was the right person to represent Hinduism

• The Parliament of the World's Religions opened on 11 September 1893. Vivekananda gave a brief speech representing India and Hinduism.

• He began his speech with "Sisters and brothers of America!". Vivekananda received a two-minute standing ovation from the crowd of seven thousand
