Idea development ???
Who are the emerging champions?
Are they using Apps?
How do different age groups interact with these devices?
Apps vs Social networking?
Shared ownership?
Key: 1 (low) – 5 (high)
Risks Rewards potential
Leader oriented 4 2
Telecentre ownership 2 4
Random ownership (floating) 3 ? (too early)
organisation (SEEDS) ownership 1 4
Rewards = generating new ideas, generating champions, unique replicable lessons
Risks = losing phone, not generating results
Apps vs. social networking
1. Social networking is more appropriate1. Social networking is more appropriate
2. Apps are not making much progress2. Apps are not making much progress
Evidence: 3 out of 5 communities engaged in social networking (Facebook + blogs)
Why? (Possible reasons)
- People are familiar with them (1.3mn FB accounts in Sri Lanka)
- Over 2000 Singhala Blogs
- People see immediate results. (eg. their own Facebook page)
- affordable access to internet (mobile broadband options)
All communities got excited on Apps, but did not sustain the excitement
Why?
- Available Apps are not targeted to local needs
- Concept is still not familiar (comparing to SMS)
Emerging prospects
