Why CIOs Are Migrating to Virtual Desktop Services An increasing number of CIOs are moving their companies to a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). According to recent numbers, nearly one third of organizations say that they are using some combination of hosted Virtual Desktop services and traditional desktops, and 33% percent of organizations not currently using desktop virtualization say that they will be adopting it within the next three years. 1 There are a number of reasons that technology officers have embraced the use of virtual interfaces. Virtualization allows businesses more flexibility, saves them time and money on maintaining and replacing technology, and lets them better compete with their industry rivals. Some of the benefits of using VDI include: Remote access at any time Unlike Remote Desktop Service, which is used to access an existing desktop configuration via another computer, VDI creates a unique virtual desktop configuration with its own security settings, applications, and operating system. This template can then be reproduced and shared with as many users as required, easily creating a new workstation with all settings and configurations already set as soon as it is needed. Virtual Desktop Service allows multiple users to connect to the same interface at the same time, access the full range of data and services available there, without impacting other users' virtual access or the host server. As long as the server that hosts the virtual interface is operational, users can access their workstations and perform work on their terminals. Save money and time on IT updates and online security In a recent study, 45% of IT professionals and executives said that between 21% and 50% of their time is spent dealing with issues like desktop upgrades, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, installations, and resolving user issues. 2 Virtual Desktop Service greatly reduces the amount of time that CIOs have to devote to routine updates and maintenance that can slow businesses down and take workstations offline. Because VDI uses a single virtual interface that all users can access, updating and reconfiguring a Virtual Desktop setup requires updating only one computer. Once an update or a change is made to the virtual terminal, that change will take effect across all workstations that access the virtual interface. Instead of having to download a necessary software update or reconfigure the security settings on multiple computers, companies that use VDI only need to update one desktop. Improved security and data storage Another benefit of using a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure is that it provides improved security and data protection. Because of the speed at which new online threats develop, IT departments often spend a large amount of time creating security patches, searching for threats to the network, and checking individual desktops for viruses. With VDI, online security becomes much simpler. Instead of having to keep multiple computers secure and updated on their security features, CIOs can focus on keeping just the virtual interface secure, which extends the protection to all workstations that access the VDI. Why CIOs Are Migrating to Virtual Desktop Services

An increasing number of CIOs are moving their companies to a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure

(VDI). According to recent numbers, nearly one third of organizations say that they are using

some combination of hosted Virtual Desktop services and traditional desktops, and 33% percent

of organizations not currently using desktop virtualization say that they will be adopting it within

the next three years.1

There are a number of reasons that technology officers have embraced the use of virtual

interfaces. Virtualization allows businesses more flexibility, saves them time and money on

maintaining and replacing technology, and lets them better compete with their industry rivals.

Some of the benefits of using VDI include:

● Remote access at any time – Unlike Remote Desktop Service, which is used to access

an existing desktop configuration via another computer, VDI creates a unique virtual

desktop configuration with its own security settings, applications, and operating system.

This template can then be reproduced and shared with as many users as required, easily

creating a new workstation with all settings and configurations already set as soon as it

is needed. Virtual Desktop Service allows multiple users to connect to the same interface

at the same time, access the full range of data and services available there, without

impacting other users' virtual access or the host server. As long as the server that hosts

the virtual interface is operational, users can access their workstations and perform work

on their terminals. ● Save money and time on IT updates and online security – In a recent study, 45% of IT

professionals and executives said that between 21% and 50% of their time is spent

dealing with issues like desktop upgrades, troubleshooting hardware and software issues,

installations, and resolving user issues.2 Virtual Desktop Service greatly reduces the

amount of time that CIOs have to devote to routine updates and maintenance that can

slow businesses down and take workstations offline. Because VDI uses a single virtual

interface that all users can access, updating and reconfiguring a Virtual Desktop setup

requires updating only one computer. Once an update or a change is made to the virtual

terminal, that change will take effect across all workstations that access the virtual

interface. Instead of having to download a necessary software update or reconfigure the

security settings on multiple computers, companies that use VDI only need to update one

desktop. ● Improved security and data storage – Another benefit of using a Virtual Desktop

Infrastructure is that it provides improved security and data protection. Because of the

speed at which new online threats develop, IT departments often spend a large amount of

time creating security patches, searching for threats to the network, and checking

individual desktops for viruses. With VDI, online security becomes much simpler.

Instead of having to keep multiple computers secure and updated on their security

features, CIOs can focus on keeping just the virtual interface secure, which extends the

protection to all workstations that access the VDI. Additionally, Virtual Desktop Services

keep data better protected by isolating sensitive information to one terminal. While

workstations that are patched into the virtual interface can access all of the data available

on it, the data is never stored on any of the remote terminals and remains contained to the

host server. VDI is quickly becoming the standard for business IT, and businesses that don't take advantage

of it will have trouble competing. For more information on how your business can benefit from
