People naturally look for ways to keep cool during hot days. They buy cold drinks

and eat chilled or frozen treats to help adjust their body temperature. Business owners

have long seen this need, so they sell beverages that do not only suit their customer’s

taste, but also make them feel refreshed. Businesses use brands of ice makers like Ice-O-

Matic, Hoshizaki, Manitowoc, Follett, Grant and Brema to make sure that they have ice

whenever necessary.

Ice comes in different shapes and sizes, and businesses in the food industry use

them depending on the nature of their establishment and what drinks they serve. Here is

a list of some of the types of ice that commercial ice makers produce:

Cube Ice – The typical-shaped ice cubes for soft drinks and mixed drinks served in

restaurants or bars. It is acceptable for bagging and dispensing, as well.

Half-Cube Ice – This is similar to what cube ice makers dispense, but is smaller.

This type is ideal for restaurants, commercial kitchens and convenience stores.

Flake Ice – Uneven sized ice for seafood and meat displays, chilled foods for buffet

tables and fresh produce. Businesses displaying chilled food, such as restaurants,

fish markets and grocery stores, see this as a good choice.

Nugget Ice – Small, chewable sized ice that is ideal for dining establishments using

fountain beverages or serving blended cocktails, specialty drinks and salads. Many

choose it for their dispensers because it is drier than flake ice.

Gourmet Ice – This is good for high-end events and dining establishments serving

liquor and other types of premium beverages.

Some beverages taste better when served cold, so they will not be complete without

ice. Instead of buying bagged ice from suppliers, many businesses are seeing the

advantage of buying ice makers to save money and improve their operations.
