Toilet Seat Cover

In my house, I have a rule that nothing goes into the bathroom unless it can either be wiped off or washed. And this is the reason why I have never liked traditional toilet seat covers. They're like mini rugs, and when it comes to washing them, they just tend to fall apart. So in the past, I have just gone without. But now I have come up with a solution that satisfies my need for beauty and my need for cleanliness.

This seat cover is as easy to care for as your bath linens, and matches too because it is made from a towel! So just pull a towel out of your linen closet, and get started.

Supplies Needed:

● One bath towel● 1 yard of 3/8" or 1/2"

wide elastic● 1 1/4 yard wide ribbon● Large piece of paper

for pattern template

Instructions:

Slide the paper completely under your toilet seat cover, and trace around the perimeter of the seat. Don't forget the back.

On the straight back edge, mark another line that is 1" outside the traced line. On the curved portion, mark another line that is 2" outside the traced line.

Cut your template out along the outer marked lines. Your template should look similar to the one that is already cut out in the photo above.

Mark around the outside of the template onto the towel.

Then place and sew the embroidery as desired within the markings. When placing your design, remember to take into account the 2" margin. That portion of the fabric is going to be turned to the back and elasticized to attach the cover to the seat.

After the embroidery is finished, cut out the seat cover along the marked line. Hem the straight back section, and serge or zig-zag the curved edge of the cover. Apply the elastic along the serged edge on the wrong side of the fabric. Stretch the elastic as you go so that the elastic gathers the fabric to the wrong side of the fabric.

Take the piece of ribbon, and divide it in half. Stitch one piece of ribbon to each end of the straight back hem.

Place the cover on the seat, hooking the gathered part around the curvature and over the back. Use the ribbon to tie it in place. The ribbons cross once in the back and then tie neatly on the top.
