Textile industry in India is counted as one of the strengths of our country. The fact that our country, India is the second largest producer of garments and textiles in the entire world is a matter of pride! 1. Cotton Sector

The cotton sector in India is highly developed it is ranked as the second most advanced sector in the Indian textile scenario. There are profusely spread cotton textile companies all over the country by means of which a large number of people are employed. According to an estimate I 2011, there were around 1719 cotton mills in India.

2. Man -Made Fibers

It is estimated that this sector has a 62% share in India’s total textile production. If cotton is the second largest sector, then this sector is the undisputed chart topper! Man-made or artificial fiber comprises of clothes produced with filament synthetic yarns. Nylon, rayon, spandex are a few distinctly used and manufactured synthetic fibers in India. 3. Jute Sector

Jute is popularly known as the “Golden Fiber” in India. The Jute production is the highest in the eastern regions of India like West Bengal and Assam. Jute industry has experienced a recent boom when the use of jut has been popularized again, as an environmental friendly replacement of plastic. India is the largest jute producer in the world!

4. Handloom Sector

Handloom industry is the mark of our tradition and culture. It is a budding industry in India with a propitious growth rate. India accounts for almost 2% of wool produced in the world! Wool industry in India is small, scattered but steady and it can be ranked as the 7th largest producer of wool in the world. 40% of wool in India is produced in Punjab alone, followed by Haryana and UP.

6. Silk SectorIndia can be ranked as the second largest producer of silk worldwide! This sector also, engages a lot of employment as this industry is quite labor intensive. India alone produces around 18% of the silk in the world.
