Canada / UK Trade Relations

• Strong cultural and historical ties

• The UK is Canada’s second-biggest trading partner behind

the USA, with £15.1 billion in bilateral trade in 2012

• 2016: The Canada / EU Comprehensive Economic and

Trade Agreement (CETA) will come into place

• CETA is projected to

- Remove about 99 per cent of all tariffs between the two

economies

- Benefit British businesses, especially in the automobile,

wine, pharmaceutical, dairy and poultry sectors

- Inject £1.3 billion into the UK economy

- Boost British exports to Canada by 29 per cent

Customs & Export Guidance

Trading with Canada

Exporting to Canada is straightforward for British businesses.

Duties only apply to shipments sent to Canada if they are valued CAN $20 and above.

To send goods to Canada, DHL Customs Brokerage needs to have on file the following

documents to clear the shipments.

For shipments sent under Incoterm Delivery Duty Paid (DDP), the sender needs to provide a:

• Signed Canadian Power of Attorney authorisation

• Registered non-resident Business Number (BN) for their company with the Canada Revenue Agency

DHL Canada can apply for a Business Number on behalf of customers.

For shipments sent under Incoterm DDU (Delivery Duty Unpaid), the sender needs to provide Power of

Attorney from the importer to allow DHL to clear the products through Customs.
