Scene 1: Outside Her House: 1

The Witch is standing next to her car on the drive, whilst a man in a yellow jacket fixes a clamp to her car. A heavy truck can be heard just out of shot. The man presents her with a fine and drives away.

NOTE: NO DIALOGUE THIS IS THE INTRO

The Old Coach House has belonged to The Witch's family for many generations, since long before the electricity and communication lines were engineered into the beautiful views of The Wildlands. It was once on the outskirts of a thriving hamlet, most of which was submerged to create the reservoir in the valley that feeds the soda machines in the SMC Theme Park.

This is not how the final witch will look, but was just a test piece. The illustrations of the witch character will be created shortly, and will be based on the “Amy Winehouse” style witch I created at PG Dip

The Dell. This is a powerful place thought to bring protection to those engaged in the magikal arts, and was once a site of pagan ceremony. Since the hamlet was flooded to create the reservoirs for the new theme park’s soda pumps, The Dell lies unused by anyone but The Witch ... although there was that tourist who thought he could leave beer cans, a smouldering fire, and something unmentionable in a carrier bag ... funny how no one ever came looking for him.

THE ROAD TO THE VILLAGE

This road was once a quiet country lane leading to the village of Beddeath, however in recent times it has become quite busy due to the influx of tourism to the village. The road is now the main route to the SMC Shopping Village, so the governing bodies have deemed it a traffic calming project.

The old watchtower in the left of this image was once home to notorious comical burglar, Odd Bob. The SNS-led government commandeered the watchtower some time ago as it has a great vantage point for the all seeing x-ray cameras that now litter the Wildlands. The Witch is most annoyed by the traffic calming measures, and would rather face Odd Bob's bad jokes than this scene, in fact - she really misses Odd Bob, and detests what those bumbling idiots are doing to her world.

I used some video of my Lurcher, Tyra, running in the garden and imported it into photoshop and cleaned it up frame by frame removing the backgrounds (I know, it would have been easier to get her to run on a white sheet but I didn't have one big enough).

I then exported that as a movie and overlayed it in After Effects onto the background scene. The original video does not follow the exact path or perspective of the background scene so I had to adjust scale, anchor points and position frame by frame. It still needs some work but as a test I have learned quite a lot about the animation features in photoshop, and that it would be simpler and easier to reshoot trying to create the path. Things to bear in mind when I add footage of a the witch on horseback riding through this scene, which I can either do via video, or utilise the positioning of this piece as a template for illustration.

I also added the camera flash using a blurred elipse shape layer and adding some red and yellow glow. That too I feel needs some work but these are just tests

I found it a quick and useful method of animation to use live action. I will obtain live action footage of a horse and rider for this scene.

Scene 4: The Village Green: 1

Narrator: But what she found was rather strangeThis just was not her scene!

I am basing the Village buildings on Lichfield Cathedral Close, beautiful buildings in their own right, but always overlooked and overshadowed by the towering Cathedral they face.

I have reduced them in size by one floor though so they look more like village buildings rather than city ones.

The village of Beddeath was once an idyllic seaside rural setting, however once the SMC (Super Massive Corporation) discovered it and gave the SNS (Super Nanny State) a backhander it’s become a popular haunt for drunken debauchery.

The name ‘Beddeath’ comes from Bedworth nr. Coventry where I worked selling engine parts for nearly 7 years. Locals pronounce ‘Bedworth’ as ‘ Beddeth’. I added the ‘a’, as I’m pretty clear on what I think of the place.

THE HOPE & GROPE

The Hope & Grope is a popular nightspot in the coastal resort of Beddeath. The bar is regularly frequented by tourists on hen and stag weekends. Occupying the old blue brick village hall, the bar is famous for its cheesy music, and even cheesier chat-up lines. Expect a night of drunken pulling.

The Hope & Grope is managed by Barbara Dwyer, for an on behalf of SMC Entertainment.

The long building in the far corner is the 24-7 Supermarket.

The Tudor building is an amusement arcade called ‘GILT’

The village also a Club 18-30 style hotel, and an STD clinic.

I want the feel of beautiful old taken over by tacky new. I found a good example of this in Alfreton, Derbyshire. The old red brick Town Hall is now a discount shop.

Narrator: Unnerved she spied a brand new stall

This is a rough composition of how the final scene would be laid out. I have used the duck cote at Stowe Pool, Lichfield as a template for the market stall, and I am currently working on the final visual look of that.

Visual and character to be sketched and created during my trip to Pembrokeshire this week.

I intend to visit the local farmers market whilst I am there to get some photographic references.

The stalls her though are all owned by SMC Markets. The SMC own everything.
