Context
• Enterprises are social systems• Innovation comes from serendipitous
connections • Difficult to locate expertise• Knowledge is power• Findability of relevant content
• The Facebook generation• The email generation
SPFestChi @nmoneypenny www.synxi.comSPFestChi @nmoneypenny www.synxi.com
Sources of Value from Enterprise Social
• Decentralize decision making (to the people closest to the problem)
• Alignment of employees’ higher level motivations, beyond process
• Culture of transparency & constant improvement
• Engage employees for ideas

Some notes on Yammer
• Doesn’t compete with SharePoint but yes, there is some overlap on social functionality
• Better way to do email, groups• Users can interact with Yammer via email
(great for adoption!)
• "We think of Exchange, SharePoint and Yammer now as one product," said Jeff Teper. "This makes decision-making a lot faster."

Integrating Yammer & SharePoint
SPFestChi @nmoneypenny www.synxi.comSPFestChi @nmoneypenny www.synxi.com
Newest Integration with SP2013
Activating Yammer for your organization is just the first step. Enterprise social is different than other solutions. To drive adoption and really get the value out of Yammer, you need a strategy, advocates, and openness to the way it will transform the way people in your organization work and communicate.

ManyWorlds Case Study
• Using Yammer since Fall 2010• Reduction of over 90% in internal email• Groups are ‘open by default’ unless sensitive/legal• Primary conduit for collaboration, SharePoint as
repository• Initially adoption was good, but mimicked email,
i.e. 1 on 1 convos, not transparent • Heavy use of external networks • Code of conduct/behavior – peer governed • Hashtags vs. groups still an issue• Busy, vibrant network
