As the scene unravels it begins to appear that he is following Mason, because he appears to be in every shot after we see Mason, following him from the train station right the way down to the park where the final showdown takes place, near the end of the scene the majority of the shots are from Tom’s point of view, to show the way the he see’s what is going on, he receives the nod from the Boss and it is revealed what is about to happen.

Mason Osbourne:Profile: Age: 17 Nationality: English Hometown: London Previous

Convictions: GBH, Possession of Cannabis and Identity Theft.

General Description: Black 5’10” Black Hair Brown Eyes

Mason is the character that the audience could have the most sympathy for. He falls into the trap of being stalked by Tom, and has been tricked by The Boss into meeting him at the park for a business deal. We see Mason’s journey mapped out as he arrives in Crystal Palace when he steps off the train thinking that he is going to an ordinary meeting with The Boss, he gives off suspicious impressions when he gets off the train trying to ensure that no one is watching him, as the deal he is about to conclude with The Boss is secret. He travels from the station to the park by foot as it is only round the corner. Tension builds up as the audience see Tom getting closer and closer to Mason but Mason is unaware and the final consequences of Mason’s stupidity are shown. Mason conforms to stereotypical representations throughout his journey after getting off the train looking nervously around and playing with his phone as he walks down the public pathway, this is something that is commonly seen happening nowadays.

ABDUCTED!

The Boss:

Profile: Name: The Boss Age: 16 Nationality: English Hometown: London Previous

Convictions: GBH, Theft.

General Description: White 5’11” Black Hair Brown Eyes

The Boss is the character of the scene that remains anonymous to the audience until the very end, when the shots of him meeting up with Mason are shown. There are points in the scene where we see Tom communicating with The Boss, for example through a conversation in the telephone box and through a text. When he appears towards the end of the scene he doesn’t say any words but simply gives a nod of the head to Tom to signal to him what needs to be done.

ABDUCTED!

This conforms to the conventions of a scene in the Thriller genre as it has many points where suspense is built up and the audience are relieved of it. This is similar to Todorov’s theory of there being a calm equilibrium and then building up chaos and then relieving the tension to a new calm equilibrium.
