Agencies and an Ex-Female Contractor

Working with agencies , IR35, rates and expenses

Page 2: Female contractor part 4 the end

I have had some very positive response for

permanent work. Some agencies however do not seem to have

taken on board the new IR35

rulings for contractors.

It’s always been the case but this time HMRC have made it very clear agency work will be classed as a

deemed payment and

treated as income from employment.

The government have backed this and it is

a political stance. At the

same time how can any individualism

flourish? I guess the

market will adjust!

Page 3: Female contractor part 4 the end

It’s not surprising I had to turn a contract down when it was so

obviously a constructed

vehicle for tax avoidance. But that was two

years ago surely the market has

adjusted.

Page 4: Female contractor part 4 the end

The agency insists I have a company so they can place me. I

will not be taking dividends but in

either case that all changes in 2016 so I will not be the only

one.

Let me see what rate do I need to charge if I go through

an agency. Ok so that’s allowable business expenses

of 5% of contract income. Take into account the deemed income. Plus I will need to

pay employers and employee taxes. OK so if I restrict it to

travel within a 35 mile radius then my income after expenses and taxed will be 53% of the contract income. That means I can charge my

old rate to earn the same money as in a permanent job. (Assuming I work 230 days a

year).

Page 5: Female contractor part 4 the end

No we do not have any work in London. How

about this nice contract in Norway! The rate is

really good and you can be away from home five

days a week. Flights are really cheap at the moment and you get to take all of the money

you do not need to pay any taxes at all..

I am sorry recruitment

consultant. It just does not add up. By the time I have paid

taxes 36% and expenses 50% of contract income I would take home £2.17 per hour!

Ok how about this one in Ireland. Then you can pay a really low

rate of tax. No they will not pay travel and

accommodation. They only do that for permies they expect you to sleep in the bus-shelter and

eat of bin.

I am sorry for you I do not want to relocate to Ireland and I will still need to pay my taxes in the UK. If your client can pay

my travelling expenses then I will be happy for you to

place me on the Irish contract.

Oh well now you tell me!

Page 7: Female contractor part 4 the end

I am sorry project

manager. Female

contractor does not like

the offer.

I don’t understand I am trying to walk the talk and recruit more

women . Why has female contractor

turned down this great opportunity? My son

has a degree and would love a job like

this. He thinks that’s a really good rate. He would enjoy being away from home.

I think someone forgot to tell her.

Page 8: Female contractor part 4 the end

Husband I do not understand other women. One just turned down a

brilliant contract that our son would love. I

had no problems getting back to work

after fifteen years looking after out

children. I am fed up with other women

winging about discrimination in the

workplace.

Yes I totally agree it’s a load

of nonsense after all our 25

year old son can do the same job as a 50 year old

woman.I will not be home

tomorrow night. I have

to go to Ireland to interview

some contractors.

She looks a bit

perplexed. I hope no-one has told her about our

open relation.

That’s the one in which I got to do

what I liked while she stayed at home with the kids.

Page 9: Female contractor part 4 the end

Hi wife. Hope you don’t mind I

have been promoted. I

know it’s the job you could have had if

things had not gone wrong

for you in the 90’s but no

hard feelings.

Err best not say anything.

I have turned down the

contract it was working for one of those ex-stay

at home wives .You do not happen to know

her and her husband do you?

Page 10: Female contractor part 4 the end

See that proves it there was no need for you to

have a career. You could have been a stay at home

wife for the last fifteen year’s like the wives in the church! You could have three children by now. There are women

here in the church with no bread-winner you do not

deserve to have a husband.

Page 11: Female contractor part 4 the end

I am not sure you wife

understands who is the

boss.. If she does not like it you can get rid of her and get with one of our

birds..

I guess so but I am not sure

if my wife would really

like that!

Ah you can become one of us now. Start

paying for children and

grandchildren. While I enjoy

spending some of my wife’s

money.

I think we need to take this back to the

drawing board!
