What are the different kinds of jobs that MBA graduates take up?

 

Jobs after completing an MBA majorly depends on your specialization and your summer internship, which you do after completing second semester in your B-school. It also depends on your academic background, let's say if you have completed your graduation in IT/CS, you are more likely to be offered a role in Product Management, IT consulting, Business Development, but this is not true for everyone. In the end everything depends on your specialization in Management.

Now coming to the 'KINDS' of various jobs. Let us first see what are the various sectors, from which companies hire in B-schools.

Media & Advertising

Now let us see what are the different kinds of roles which are offered to the students; sector wise. I am assuming that you are form India.

BFSI - Students are offered role in Investment Banking, Corporate Treasury, Business Operations, Credit Analysis, Relationship Management, Corporate Banking, Trade Finance Services, Risk Analytics, Wealth management, Branch Banking & Credit, Commercial Credit, Equity Research, Strategic Business & HR. Students from specializations like Finance, Marketing HR, International Business, Operations, are offered above mentioned roles. BFSI companies hire the highest amount of students from any reputed Business school, and offer some the most lucrative profiles to students.

◦Conglomerates - Conglomerates like GE, Mahindra & Mahindra offers coveted leadership profiles in Strategy, General Management, Finance, Sales & Marketing and Operations. These companies prefer to hire students with the Engineering background, especially for their Strategy, Marketing and Operations role.

Consulting - Go to any Business school and ask a student what is the most coveted and sought after role, answer will be 'Consultant'. Strategy Consulting majors like Boston Consulting Group, Mckinsey & Co., Bain & Co, offer role in Strategy Consulting and Business Consulting. They only visit  top B-Schools and hire few distinctive students. they commonly hire students from Finance/Marketing and General Management. Other roles offered in this domain are Marketing Consulting and HR Consulting. 

5. BPO / KPO Most of the BPO’s / KPO’s (Business

Process Outsourcing / Knowledge Process Outsourcing ) prefer commerce graduates and you in BPO/KPO you can work as client serving executive, customer care executive and Team leader. In this outsourcing companies there are lots of opportunities and they offer a good pay package.

FMCG - These companies offer a role in Brand Management, Sales & Marketing, Operations and HR. Again top companies like Unilever, ITC, L'oreal offer drool worthy packages.

IT/ITeS - IT majors offer role in Project Management, Consulting, Business Management. Google, Microsoft, Netapp are some of the highest payers.

Automobile & Manufacturing - These companies offer role in Finance, HR, Sales and Marketing and Operations. For their Operations roles, they prefer Engineers.

Pharmaceuticals - Nothing distinctive here, companies hire from the domains like Marketing, HR and Operations. 

Real Estate - These companies mostly offer roles in Sales & Marketing.

Media & Advertising - These companies offer role in Media Marketing, Commercial Marketing & Advertisement. People who have track record of being most creative, are offered a role in this department.

So, these are different kinds of jobs that students take up after completing their MBA.
