2. Industry/Career Expo Industry/Career Expo Wednesday, October 9, 2013 ICI Center 9:00 am - 4:00 pm*Professional Dress Required* 3. Prepare Review the list of companies Create a targeted company list Research those companies Apply for jobs ahead of time Customize resumes for specific companies Prepare and practice what you plan to say 4. Practice Elevator speech or introduction It is nice to meet you [Ms. Smith]. I am very happy to see that [company name] is attending the Career Expo this year. I have been following [company name] for a long time. I am a junior in the [__] program at Embry-Riddle. I plan to graduate in [May 2014]. As a [__] student, I am interested in the work that [company name] is doing on the [__] project. I went to the company website and saw that you have an internship program. Wear Professional attire Gentlemen: suits with long sleeve button-down shirts and ties in conservative colors Ladies: skirt or pant suits with appropriate blouses in conservative colors Shine your shoes Flight and ROTC uniforms Cultural and religious options Business casual if professional attire is unavailable or not appropriate for your industry 6. Wear Visit the Career Services Pinterest group [http://pinterest.com/eraucsodb/] and peruse the What to Wear Men, What to Wear Women and What Not to Wear Men and Women boards for ideas on professional dress. 7. Bring Eagle Card Resumes Supporting documentation (logbooks) Pen and pad-folio/notebook No more than one bag 8. Show Respect Use general etiquette rules Be mindful of the persons time Be understanding when things may not work in your favor Wait politely but listen to other conversations Avoid the grab and go tactic Dont leave your resume Be genuine 9. Know When you arrive: Swipe your Eagle Card Create a nametag Turn off your cell phone Freshen breath Review the program Walk the floor 10. Know When you introduce yourself: Give a good handshake Speak clearly Use appropriate language; avoid slang Project positive body language Smile and eye contact Show enthusiasm Share your interests and passions 11. Know When you interact with employers: Ask well-thought-out questions Avoid asking what do you do? Articulate your strengths Relate them to what the company needs Show enthusiasm Share your interests and passions Know that lunch is 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm 12. Follow-up Keep records of who you meet at each company Write down full names and email addresses Send a thank you email or note 13.
