is an award-winning biography of the boxer Muhammad Ali, written in 1991 by Thomas Hauser. It won the William Hill Sports Book of the Year award in that year.

• Thomas C. Hauser (born 27 February 1946 in New York City, U.S.) is an American author.

• He made his debut as a writer in 1978 with The Execution of Charles Horman.

• In 1991 he was awarded the William Hill Sports Book of the Year award for Muhammad Ali: His Life and Times.

• He is the chairman of the Boxing Writers Association of America's membership

committee.

Cassius Clay

• Muhammad Ali (born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. on January 17, 1942) of retired American Boxer. Ali was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He was named after his father, Cassius Marcellus Clay, Sr.

• His career began when he was just 12 years old.

popular; he was very surprised when he

returned to the U.S. after his medal.

In 1960 Muhammad Ali

displayed courage when he won

the Olympic medal for boxing in Rome.

In 1964, Ali won world

Heavyweight championship,

after beating the “bear”, Sonny

Liston.

Stood up against racism,

after he refused service

in a Kentucky restaurant

because he was black,

then threw his gold medal

into a river.

In 1964, Ali joined the

Nation of Islam and

and became a black

Muslim, which was

daring and an unpopular

thing to do at that time.

In 1964 he Revert to Islam.

Cassius Clay has adopted Islam religion with a

big surprise for all the world. He thought Islam

is way to the peace,and they pray five times a

day. “Everyone should live how they feel.”

‘Cassius Clay is a slave name. I didn’t choose it

and I don’t want it. I am Muhammad Ali, a free

man…’

Ali refused to go to Vietnam war

He didn’t go to war because his Islam group was against violence.

In May 1967,the World Boxing Association took away

his boxing license and his title. He went to the prison

for 5 years. He fought this decision all the way to the Supreme Court which ruled in his favor. After 5 years of not fighting Muhammad fought hard and reclaimed his heavyweight championship.

Ali returned to the ring in 1970.

• In 1995 Ali beat Frazer and became a

first boxer in history of boxing who won

third time.

• After losing the fight to Holmes, Ali’s

health appeared to be on a rapid decline:

he seemed sluggish and weak in motor

skills. Ali got Parkinson disease.

• In 1984, Ali was diagnosed with

Parkinson’s disease. The symptoms

include tremors, a tightening of the

muscles, and slowness of movement

and speech.

At the 1996 Olympic Games

he lit the Olympic torch.

• The world and his country

honored him. President Clinton

wanted to see him.

”The president stood directly in

front of Ali and put his hands on

Ali’s shoulders. “They wouldn’t

tell me who would light the

flame, but when I saw it was

you, I cried.”

Ali’s popularity today

• Muhammad Ali was named the athlete of

the century.The people have never forgotten

him and they never will. He was role

model for millions across the globe.
