What Is PEGI?

The Pan-European Game Information known as PEGI it is an age rating system and it is established for everyone so it helps parents making informed decisions on buying computer or console games. It was launch in spring 2003 and replaced a number of national age rating system with a single system now used throughout most of Europe, in 30 countries. The system is supported by the major console manufacturers, including Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, as well as by publishers and developers of interactive games throughout Europe. The age rating system was developed by the Interactive Software Federation Of Europe (ISFE).

ClassificationThe content of games give this rating is considered suitable for all age groups. But some violence in a comical context like cartoon like forms of violence that is acceptable. The child should not be able to associate the character on the screen with real life characters, they should be totally fantasy. The game should not contain any sound of pictures that are likely to scare or frighten young children. Also no bad language should be heard.

Any game that would normally be rated at 3 but contains some possibly frightening scenes or sounds may be considered suitable in this category.

Videogames that show violence of a slightly more graphic nature towards fantasy character and non graphic violence towards human looking characters or recognisable animals, as well as videogames that show nudity of a slightly more graphic nature would fall in this age category.

This rating is applied once the depiction of violence or sexual activity reaches a stage that looks the same as would be expected in real life. More extreme bad language, the concept of the use of tobacco and drugs and the depiction of criminal activities can be content of games that are rated 16.

The adult classification is applied when the level of violence reaches a stage where it becomes a depiction of high violence and includes of specific types of violence. High violence is the most difficult to define since it can be very subjective in many cases, but in general terms it can be classed as the depictions of violence that would make the viewers may feel a bit disgusted.

Classification Bad Language – Game will contain mild swearing or maybe offensive language in games and that could be rated as a 12, 16 or 18.

Discrimination – This can only appear on games rated 18 containing ethnic, religious, nationalistic of other stereotypes and that could encourage hatred to some people.

Drugs – Some games may encourage the use of tobacco or alcohol in games and that would be rated 16 and if illegal drugs shows that would be titled as an 18.

Fear – This descriptor may appear on 7 rated games with pictures of sounds and that may could be frightening to any young children's.

Gambling – Used for games that are rated 12, 16 or 18 and that may encourage young people and might teach them gambling for money normally played in casinos.

Sex – With games that includes nudity or references to sexual behaviour. In games this will be rated 12 this may include words or activities with obvious sexual and will be rated a 16. With 18 rated games explicit images of sexual activity may be included.

Violence – Games that contains slight violence will be rated a 7 with any non realistic and non detailed. But games that includes violence in fantasy environment, and more realistic images would be 12, 16 ,18.

The game is rated an 18 because it involves violence, bad language , horror, sex with nudity sexual behaviour and sexual references, Drugs use, discrimination that involves racism and online game.
