I would like to thank you for taking the time to meet with me recently to discuss my desire to begin the next phase of my evolving career path. As you know, I come from a show business family and am a recovering civil litigation attorney turned entrepreneur. I have spent my entire life endeavoring to unite my inherent artistic disposition with my learned talents to prove that creativity and logic are not mutually exclusive concepts. While my career has taken me in several different directions, at my professional core I am a writer and would like to find a position where I can honor my muse. Specifically, I am interested in public relations. Public relations is fundamentally about mastering the art of communication and utilizing the power of the written word as a tool to both inform and persuade. My well-rounded liberal arts education coupled with my extensive experience studying, traveling and teaching overseas opened my eyes to the growing need for precise communication in a multifaceted world inundated with information and technology. Seeking to enhance my ability to communicate effectively, upon returning to the United States I promptly enrolled in law school. The framework of my legal education and subsequent vocation was founded upon articulation, organization and persuasive writing. When the economy faltered, I left the practice and became an entrepreneur. My recent business and community ventures have allowed me to deviate from the formal constraints that define the world of jurisprudence. I have tackled projects ranging from drafting business plans and raising capital to developing marketing strategies and penning press releases. Just as numerous improvisational jazz musicians attribute their command of the avant-garde style to years of formal training in classical music, my traditional education and career path to date have provided me with the resources and resilience necessary to creatively and purposefully engage any audience. Dear Jim:

I hope this letter finds you well.

In sum, my education, skill sets and collective experiences provide me with a distinctive insight into the human condition, the capability to tell a compelling story and, therefore, the talents necessary to serve as an effective public relations strategist and/or communications specialist. Thank you, once again, for taking an interest in my professional development. I have attached a copy of my resume and included a link to my LinkedIn page, which includes writing samples, articles, and other pertinent multimedia content. I look forward to speaking with you again soon.

Sincerely,

Justin Ayars, JDLeadership Metro Richmond, Class of 2014
