Our customers share on their challenges: “Our projects can take 3 months to 5 years. Actually, they are both long and complex since we make aircraft engine parts. I joined our engineering team 9 months ago and was struck to see that everything is followed and tracked via Excel. Some of our project managers spend 3 days a week on the report updates.”

Director, Engineering dept, Aeronautics

Our customers share on their challenges: “We have several corporate solutions but nothing we can use ourselves to track our business activities. As of today, we are basically walking blind and when the Board asks for a forecast, it is a lot of guesswork. We need to build visibility as this is vital to our success and future.”

Director, Management Team, Pharmaceutical

Our customers share on their challenges: “Our current reporting is very basic. It has been developed internally and it works well but we need to sophisticate our capabilities in order to provide better information, more KPIs and better visuals. All this for our customers as we need to differentiate ourselves.”

The role of the ETL 1/2

Transform …is the process is the process

of converting the extracted data from its previous form into the form it needs to

be in so that it can be placed into another database.

Extraxt ….is the process of reading the data in its original

database.

Load …is the process of writing the data

into the target database

ETL is short for extract, transform, load. It fulfils 3 database functions that are combined into one tool to pull data out of one database and place it into another database.

Page 13: Introduction to Reportive slideshare

The role of the ETL 2/2

Why is it useful? What is it for?

It allows you to integrate very heterogeneous data (different sources, formats, organizations)

Data can be managed from its very point of entry (filter, join, sort, aggregate, etc.)

No intermediate data storage and manipulation required

Gain time in data integration

Relief from using a data warehouse

Create your indicators

Integration is simplified and accessible to non data experts

Ensure data quality from project outset

Relief from codes and script

The ETL is a unique asset for your data integration and management. It participates to making Self-Service BI truly accessible to all.
