EXISTING LAYOUT
?
EXISTING LAYOUTThe current circulation strategy and exhibition layout fragments the visitor’s experience, and compartmentalizes the exhibition content in two disctinct phases: life and work.
This layout is counterintuitive and undesirable, as it presents an artificial separation between the life and the work of the artist, and prevents the visitor from simultaneously experiencing both threads of content.LIFE WORK
SEPARATION
PROPOSED LAYOUTOur concept is articulated around the reorganization of the exhibition content in one cohesive and interactive circulation itinerary;
previously fragmented in two separate and independent gallery spaces, the life and the work are allowed to co-exist simultaneously and run chronologically throughout the length of one single combined exhibition space.

LIFE
SEPARATION
PROPOSED LAYOUTThis reorganization allows to incorporate an efficient circulation layout while filtering the content and presenting visitors with an immersive and engaging exhibition narrative. The parallel juxtaposition of ‘life’ and ‘work’ clearly displays both relevant threads of information, while enhancing the visitor’s experience by highlighting their interdependency and mutual relationships.
Most importantly, this strategy explicitly addresses the artist’s prolific and multidisciplinary character, combining archive material, printed content, original works, historical artefacts and interactive technologies into a continuous and integrated multimedia experience.

PROPOSED LAYOUT
COMBINED EXHIBITION SPACEThe proposed circulation layout allows to organize the combined exhibition space around the chronological display of mixed mediums such as printed works, original content, artefacts, projection surfaces and interactive screens.
As such, it creates an interactive multimedia band running the lengths of all exhibition surfaces.
INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA BANDThe interactive multimedia band serves two purposes. Physically, it allows for the co-existence of multiple platforms of content within and between the ‘life’ and ‘work’ threads.
Digitally, it provides the opportunity for visitors to instantaneously preview or revisit content at any point in the chronological timeline through the use of interactive touchscreens and dock stations.
INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA BANDTYPICAL ELEVATION - ZONES
The band is organized in two zones, emanating from the center. Typically, the body of ‘work’ is displayed in the upper quadrant, while the ‘life’ component and associated archival materials are displayed in the lower quadrant.

If need be, the system is flexible enough to allow either ‘life’ or ‘work’ threads to transgress the central dividing line and occupy the full extent of the exhibition surface.

INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA BANDThe interactive multimedia band simultaneously combines multiple contents:
INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA BANDThe interactive multimedia band also accomodates the content according to themed chronological periods in the artist’s life and work, determined and organized with curatorial imput.

MULTI-PURPOSEEXHIBITION SPACE
MULTI-PURPOSE EXHIBITIONSPACEThis space can be annexed to the combined exhibition space to extend the display itinerary, or potentially used for temporary external and independent events.
CONFERENCESPACE
CONFERENCE SPACEThis is a functionally open-ended space and can accomodate multiple layouts and uses, both internal and external.
