What is a Digipak?

A Digipak is a patented style of a CD cover made out of paperboard or stock card.

It consists of a book-style layout and is the first alternative to a typical plastic cover.

A Digipak is often used for a special edition of an artists album or for a single track.

Layout – 3 page spread

This is the most common and most likely to be the design I choose. There is enough space to fit in key information but with only 3 panels the digipak still feels compact. Extra slots in the side panels allow for extra space, if needed.

Layout – 8 page spreadThis is a much larger digipak and can hold multiple CDs. This allows more variations with the design and it can include more information. This design also allows for multiple CD plastic holders to hold more than one CDs.

Front

The front cover usually has a large eye catching picture on them to attract the consumer.

Typically it will be the main cover of the album the artist is releasing.

The song or album title would also be found on the cover.

Inside Inside a Digipak there will be at least one plastic holder for the

main CD. As this holder is usually clear there can be artwork underneath

that relates to the rest of the digipak packaging. More information can also be found inside such as song lyrics,

personal messages and song lists.
