Week 7 - Storyboard For this exercise, I thought about cartoons that I have watched

over my lifetime and tried to incorporate aspects of them into the exercise.

I found that this exercise was fairly boring as it requires you to be minimalistic in the way you draw each scene and try to convey as much information as you can, whereas my style of drawing is to get lots of detail and “eye-candy”

Week 8 - Metamorphosis

• I found that this exercise was rather hard to get my head wrapped around, but once I decided which part of the first picture turned into what part of the last, I found it was easier. • I am happy with the outcome and it is evident that the animation would be smoother if there were more frames.• Overall, the exercise was fun.

Week 8 - Metamorphosis For this exercise, I chose to manipulate my first life drawings into

“Nyan Cat”, a pop-tart cat which originated from an online video which became viral.

I chose to do this exercise with the same process I used for the last exercise which was to figure out which parts of the first drawing turn into what parts of the last but in this case, first to middle and middle to last. I manipulated sections which I thought looked similar between the two frames and thought about how it would be flipped, rotated and morphed in order to turn it into the other shape.

Visual Concept Map/Time-Line

I chose to do a time-line and started off drawing a draft to figure out how I would do the final drawing.

After these drawings I thought that time-line’s were meant to have simple drawings with plenty of meaning whereas these drawings were complete, detailed drawings. As a result, I scrapped this work and started on a new time-line.

Visual Concept Map/Time-Line

For the final drawing, I focused mainly on a suitcase when its first purchased and it’s journey on a holiday. When I finished the basic drawings, I found that it looked very bland so I decided to add some tone which I think has helped it a lot, though the scanner light took away some of the lighter shades.

I didn’t want to include any text because I wanted the pictures to give all the meaning needed to get the story across to the audience.

• This is the first sketch I did for the reportage and my favourite.• Being on the train, I had plenty of time to get the surrounding drawn because of the long trip to university.• At first I sketched basic shapes for the 2 people around me quickly, as well as the suitcase next to the man, in case they decide to move or had to go.• I then went on to fill in the detail on the chairs and decided to put myself in the sketch as well.

4 x Hand-drawn Reportage

This is the second sketch I drew for the reportage. I don’t particularly like it due to the blandness of the scene.

I started with the basic shapes for the figure and suitcase and then moved onto the table and chairs.

I thought that if I left out all the other chairs, tables and people walking around I would be able to focus more on the figure and his suitcase.

4 x Hand-drawn Reportage

This is the third sketch I drew for the reportage. I don’t particularly like this one either but prefer it over the previous sketch.

As with the previous sketch, I started with the basic shapes for the figure, tree and suitcase and then the surrounding environment.

This drawing was quite awkward as the person kept looking up at me so I decided to leave add some touch-ups at home.

4 x Hand-drawn Reportage

This is the final sketch I drew for the reportage. I found that I liked this one more than the last two.

As with the previous sketches, I started with the basic shapes for the figure and suitcase because he was moving and then the surrounding environment because I could just stay there and add anything I wanted.

8 x Drawn panel storyboard concept

For the 8 panel storyboard, I decided the story would be of a man leaving his home to go on a trip on a plane.

I think I have been successful with it but I think some detail could be toned down.

This is the preliminary sketch I drew beforehand to get a sense of how I would do the final diagram.I started with the complete suitcase first and then extended the parts which I believe helped with the final diagram.

• This is the final drawing which I drew freehand while trying to keep lines parallel.• A lot of the dotted lines I used to line up pieces of the suitcase disappeared during the scan due to the lightness of the lines and the light intensity of my scanner, but I tried to darken the lines anyway.• I’m fairly happy with the final results but feel that if I had chosen to use a isometric grid, it would look a little better.

8-10 drawing animated For the metamorphosis animation, I decided to morph the

suitcase into a raving rabbid, a character from a popular video game called Raving Rabbids.

I chose to do the maximum number of drawings (10) in order to make sure that it would look smooth in an animation, which I believe has been a success.

THANK YOUThank you for the wonderful

semester.I hope you enjoyed viewing my

final project.I learnt quite a lot of new

techniques and believe I have improved on drawing vastly.

I look forward to continuing drawing in the future with my newfound skills.

It was definitely my most favourite class to attend.
