N0.EG-DO-C-O01PAGE 7 OF 1091 .0 INTRODUCTION1.1 The Engineering Drawing Practice Code (EDPC) amalgamates and updates the various requirements covered in various existing documents. 1.2 The Code aims too Bring uniformity in Mechanical,Electrical,Civil,Process and Instrumentation discipline drawings. o Provide quick reference to pre designed standard and laying down good design drawing process to work more effectively. - Assist users to read the drawings by giving fixed set of conventions in preparation of drawings. o Standardize as much possible of engineering works for projects handled by Engineering Group and Contractors. This code is for use by Kuwait Oil Company (KSC) and its Contractor. This issue of Engineering Drawing Practice Code (EDPC) supersedes the following existing KOC documents : o Engineering Drawing Office Practice Code,issued earlier. o Standards Specification for Contractor Drawings (Issue dated 25th May 1998)o The above documents are superseded and withdrawn. 2.0 SCOPE2.1 This code specifies the requirements for preparation of Engineering Drawings for KOC Facilities in Kuwait. 2.2 The procedure for initiation,numbering,approval and revision of drawings generated by KOC and Contractors are covered in this code. 2.3 This Code also specifies the print room operating procedures. 3.0 GENERAL DRAFTING PRACTICEDrawings and diagrams shall comply with the requirements of Engineering Drawing Practice Code. 3.1 Presentationa) Third angle orthographic projection shall normally be used.Section planes shall be clearly shown. Elevations and sections shall be correctly orientated when viewed from the bottom or right hand edge of the drawing. 9. DOC. N0.EG-DO-C-O01PAGE 8 OF 109REV. Od) Isometric projections may be used for sub-assemblies of piping. e) Perspective may be used to give an artists impression of the finished building or installation. f) Views and sections shall be chosen so as to present information clearly with the minimum number of views.So that information is not repeated. g) For any equipment or detail which appears in the plan but is omitted in the section or elevation,for clarity a statement of this meaning should be added under the section name. General Piping Guidelinesa) All Piping will clearly indicate all Clearances,Intersections,Anchors,Guides,Piping Supports,Spring and Rod,Hangers and Connections to Associated Equipment. Piping Drawings will show Dimensions in mm and Levels in Metres. A Co-ordinate will locate all Equipment such as Vessels,Tanks,Exchangers,Pumps,Pipe Racks and Buildings.Piping will beDimensioned from these Coordinates where possible. Pipe 12" and under will be drawn Single Line.Double line Piping will be used for Lines 14" and Larger. e) Each Line on the Piping Arrangement Drawings will be marked toshow Flow Direction & the Line Size,Fluid Designation,Line Number,Line Class and Insulation Designation if Insulation is needed. 10. I DOC. N0.EG-DO-C-O01 PAGE 9 OF 1093.3General Dimensioning Guidelinesa) All dimensions on a drawing shall use the same unit. Dimensions shall normally be in millimetres,Coordinates,Levels and survey dimensions shall normally be in metres.If other units are required they shall be clearly stated on each drawing within brackets. The abbreviation symbols for Diameter,Radius and Square shall precede the figure e. g. 012 or D12, R85 and El 30.Where equipment or material is sized in Imperial units the metric conversion shall be given in brackets,the Imperial size shall not be normally given. Nominal pipe sizes and valve bores should be given in Imperial units unless otherwise requested. Fractions of millimetres shall be avoided where possible,except these are machining tolerances,sheet thickness and wirediameters. As a minus sign is easily misread,a suitable datum shall be taken as TBM (temporary bench mark) such that all levels are positive. This bench mark shall be clearly indicated on the drawing or diagram when necessary.The bench mark shall be related to the ordnance survey or chart datum. Normally separate drawings should be made for different types of work.For example the following should be on separate drawingsMechanical works,Civil works,Electrical works,Air conditioning,Plumbing,Fire fighting and Pipe spools which are to be prefabricated. Colour Coding for CheckingColours used for checking shall have the following meanings: Deletions and inaccuracies Additions CorrectBlue -Red - Green -Comments not implying inaccuracy like instruction to draughtsman should be marked up in pencil.All irrelevant notes,like calculations,sketching. ..etc.shou| dt be marked up on the check print. 11. N0.EG-DO-C-O01PAGE 10 or 1093.5 Dimensioning Samples27.504L100500 E 100600 E3.6 Drawing Scalesa) The Following metric scales are preferred in laying out the drawing contents. 1:1 1:10 1:50 1:500 1:250O 1:40 1:2 1:20 1:100 1:1000 1:5000 1:33 1/3 1:5 1:25 1:200 1:2000All layout and general arrangement drawings shall be drawn to scale.The scale shall be indicated in the scale section of the title block. If for reason of clarity more than one scale is used,the scale used will be clearly indicated below each view or detail and the text as AS SHOWNshall be printed in the scale section of the title. For schematic drawings (e. g. P & ID's),the word NONE shall be printed in the scale section of the title block. On scaled drawings where for reasons of clarity the physical dimensions are drawn "Not To Scale" the dimension shall be annotated below the dimension text thus '(NTS)'. 3.7 Graphic Scales0 I0 20 30 40GRAPHIC SCALE 1 :500a) Graphic Scales shall be placed above the Title Block.b) Graphic Scales shall be shown in all scaled drawings. 12. O3.83.9Location Plana) Location Plan shall be placed above the Graphic scales/ Title block. b) Location Plan for Plant/ Facilities approaching road maps shall be indicated on the drawing wherever necessary. Key Plana) Key Plan shall be placed above the Graphic scales/ Title block.b) The subject area of the particular drawing is to be hatched for clarification. Section Indicators@_INorth Arrowa) A North point shall appear on every plan and shall be designated True,Refinery or Plant Grid. b) The North arrow shall take the form shown in option 1, 2 or 3.TOP RIGHT HAND CORNER OF DRAWING SPACEOption-23.12 Layouts,Surveys,Site and Location Plansa) The true or Grid North shall point to the top of the sheet see Option 1 & 2.b) Double arrows giving the relationship between True and Site or Plant GridNorths shall be used on layouts and Surveys only see Option 3; for surveys,the angle of variation should be added. 13. N0.EG-DO-C-O01PAGE 12 or 1093.13 Piping and Civil Drawings (Other than those for Buildings)The orientation of all piping plans and civil arrangement plans shall be the same as Plant Layout.Plans for subassemb| ies and Layout part plans musthave the same orientation as the main plan layout.Architectural and Associated Plansa) On building plan the main entrance is normally shown towards the bottom of the drawing sheet.The north arrow shall be added to the plan showing its true position.i. e. North arrow may be shown towards the bottom ofthe drawing sheet. All other plans relating to the same building should have the same orientation e. g. RC foundation,drainage,plumbing and power and lighting. If a Site or Location plan is added to the same drawing sheet as the working drawing then the Site or Location plan shall have the same orientation as the Site Layout. This convention sets a limit to the extent of the hidden edges and in certain cases gives added information in the view,e. g. from the elevation alone Tank B is seen to be directly behind Block F and also behind Tank C. d.Tank A is stopped at Tank C and at the outline of Tank E since A is behind in each case. e.Edges of future or existing items that are behind other outlines should not be shown. 15.
