EVALUATIONWho would be the audience for your media product?

&How did you attract/address your audience?

Research◦ I completed a lot of research before starting the construction of my magazine. This was so

that I could ensure that I was certain on what target audience I wanted my magazine to fit into.

◦ After looking at and analysing a number of different music magazine and decided to go for an indie genre therefore looking more closely at music magazines such as Q, NME, Kerrang etc.

◦ I completed a research questionnaire using Surverymonkey.com, I analysed the results and put them on my blog. This helped me gain information on what audience I wanted my magazine to attract and what I would have to include/change to ensure that it was suitable for my target audience.

◦ The results helped me decide that my target audience would be males and females aged 17-24 who have an interest in indie music and festivals.

◦ It also helped me understand that an interview would be better than an article and the price should not exceed £2.50.

Initial Audience◦ To start with I wanted the main target audience of my magazine to be strictly

female however, after research I learnt that males too would be interested in my magazine and it would be inconvenient to restrict it simply to female.

◦ I was also not going to focus as much on festivals as I did and I was simply going to prioritise bands however after completing research I noticed that festivals were a common interest in the people that I spoke to that would be interested in buying my magazine.

How I attracted my audience…

IMAGES/MODELS◦ The first thing I aimed to do to attract the male audience of my

magazine was make sure I chose models that not only fitted into the indie genre of my magazine that was also attractive so that the male audience were drawn to it.

FESTIVAL GOERS◦ So that my magazine appealed to both males and females

interested in music festivals I created a puff saying ‘THE ULTIMATE FESTIVAL GUIDE’ and a strap line informing them of some of the festivals that will feature in the magazine. This attracts the target audience of my magazine and instantly draws them into buying it to find out more about the ‘ULTIMATE FESTIVAL GUIDE’.

How I attracted my audience…

ARTICLE◦ I also followed the advice from my questionnaire so that I

attracted my target audience and made the article in my magazine an interview. This was a unanimous vote from all who answered my questionnaire so I knew it was something that would definitely appeal to my target audience.

PROMOTIONS◦ As the genre of my magazine is indie and the target audience

are people interested in indie music and festival goers I used a promotion on the front cover of my magazine. This was to entice my target audience and give them more reasons to want to buy the magazine.

How I attracted my audience…

FASHION◦I then dressed the models in fashionable clothing that they would appeal to the female audience making them aspire to look like the girls and also fit into the indie genre of the magazine.

How I attracted my audience…

MUSIC GENRE◦My magazine genre is ‘indie’ I chose this by created a music mind map in the initial

stages of my research and planning.

◦ It helped my view all of the different options I had in term of music genre.

◦After deliberating between indie pop and just indie on it’s own I eventually decided to go with indie. This is because I felt I had more knowledge on the types of band I could and wanted to include.

◦ I also felt that the people that answered my questionnaire would fit more into an indie genre and the fact they all appreciated music festivals made me think of ‘Boardmasters’ and ‘Reading and Leeds festival’ etc.

PRICE◦My questionnaire helped me gain the knowledge that the best and most ideal price

for my magazine would be £2.20 as this is affordable for my target audience that are aged 17-24.
