REPORT ON PLASTIC

Page 2: Report on plastic

Plastic is an organic material of high molecular weight , which is soft enough at some stage of its manufacture to be formed in various shapes by applying heat and pressure

Plastic is a clear tough polymer with exceptional gas and moisture barrier properties. The building and construction industries is the nations 2nd largest consumer of plastics.

Plastics are building a reputation for durability, aesthetics, easy handling and high performance

It is most synthetic material.

THERMOPLASTIC- This is strong, hard and durable in a variety of colors. It is softened by heating process and regain its original property as it solidify during cooling to form the finished product. It is used in PVC tubes, wall tiles, floor tiles and glazing.

THERMOSETTING PLASTIC- It is changed chemically by heating process and solidify while still hot and assume the form of finished product. It is not possible to reshape this by means of heat and pressure. It is used in wash basins, water closets, valves, handles and wall panels.

CLASSIFICATION ON THE BASIS OF HEATING PROPERTIES

HOMOGENEOUS PLASTIC- It contains carbon chain and exhibits homogeneous structure.

HETROGENEOUS PLASTIC- It contains carbon chain oxygen, nitrogen and other elements as well as.

CLASSIFICATION ON THE BASIS OF STRUCTURE

SOFT PLASTIC- It have low modulus of elasticity. Is elongation under pressure disappears slowly on removal of pressure.

RIGID PLASTIC- Have high modulus of elasticity. Maintain shape under pressure at normal as well as increased temperature.

SEMI-RIGID PLASTIC- Have medium modulus of elasticity. Elongation under pressure disappear completely on removal of pressure.

ELATOMERS- Have very low modulus of elasticity. Deform under pressure considerably and return to its original shape on removal of pressure.

CLASSIFICATION ON PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

Plastics may be transparent and translucent. Most plastics have high coefficient of thermal expansion . Have very low melting point. Have high corrosion resistance . By adding suitable pigment can be made in any shape and

design. Quite durable, very cheap and light weight but not ductile. Have excellent electric insulating property, fire resistance,

weather resistance but loss strength, become soft and dull as time passes.

Reasonably strong Do not require any protective coat of paint, low maintenance. Can be easily fix, drill, bolt clamp , screw etc. anywhere .
