INTRODUCTION Sand stone is a solid rock

and is naturally found of the bottom of the stacks.

It is obtained from stratified sedimentary rocks. It can be crafted from the sand. It has the cracked texture of the cobble stone.

It occurs in a variety of formations such as fine grained, coarse grained, compact or porous.

COLOR AND TEXTURE Sand stone’s color and

texture depends on its geological makeup and want types of it.

It can be grey, red, white, blue, black and sometimes pink and yellow.

It is soft in texture and medium grained. Generally the grains tend to be all of a similar size and sub angular or well rounded.

TYPES OF SAND STONE

Depending upon the type of cementing material sand stone may be classified as-

Calcareous sand stone Argillaceous sand stone Ferruginous sand stone All these sand have lime, clay and

oxide of iron as cementing materials

QUARTZ It is one of the most

common substance on the earth surface. Sand stone that has been in the depositing sedimentary basin for very long periods is usually quartz sandstone.

ARKOSE Sand stone has much

higher levels of field span – another common geological substance . Arkoses sandstone indicates a much shorter time in the depositional basin and is usually found in basins caused by tectonics activity.

LITHIC

It is found in areas of rapid erosion and or temperature climate is also known as greywacke.

USES AND PURPOSES Sand stone can be used for a variety of purposes. Its

unique properties make it excellent for providing material for paving and buildings.

It is soft enough to cut easily into blocks and slabs. Sand stone is mainly used for making carving. It is sedimentary rock used in making of counter top,

tiles, glass fillings, play sand, concrete, polishing metal, sand blasting and in making building.

It is also used for grind stone to sharper knives and other tools.

If the wrong type of rock or stone is used , wall could collapse and roof tiles could quickly become damaged by the weather.
