The San Francisco Bay Area is widely known as a hotbed of creativity and artistic expression. For this reason, local organizations and individuals generally receive a great deal of private and public funding to support the wide array of innovative programs throughout the region.

Despite recent budget constraints, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) remains at the forefront of efforts to fund the arts throughout America. This year, the NEA will be providing grants to a number of Bay Area programs and facilities to support a range of initiatives in 2014.

Groups receiving NEA funds this year include Opera Parallèle, which will receive $15,000 for its June debut of Anya17, by Adam Gorb. The popular Monterey Jazz Festival, held in September, is slated to receive funds in the amount of $37,000. In addition, an NEA grant of $35,000 will go to the renowned Stern Grove Festival to support its 2014 concert season and education outreach efforts. With an acoustically ideal natural environment and a long and storied history, Stern Grove is now in its 77th year as a premier venue for high-quality paid and free concerts.
