Welcome to the Buyer’s Guide to Shade Sails
5 things you need to know
They are shower proof
but not fully waterproof
The sail has a fabric
that allows it to breathe
They will protect you from a light shower
but not a heavy shower
We advise that you install them
with a slope of 15 degrees to help the rain run off the surface
If they are correctly installed
they can withstand high winds
The wind force will be transmitted from
the sail into the mountings so they must be secure
The amount of tension
depends on the size of the sail
30-50kg of tension
will be needed in each corner
High quality fittings and a reinforced border
also help to resist the wind force
They absorb over 90% of harmful UV rays
The fabric is breathable
which allows hot air to escape through and give you a cool shade
The most common are
triangles, squares and rectangles
There is a limited range
of sizes and colors in the ‘standard’ range
Custom sails are available
in a wider range of shapes and colors, but are more
expensive
A 4 sided sail will provide
more shade than a 3 sided sail
To cover a larger area
multiple sails can be superimposed
Smaller sails will be less affected by the wind
Standard quality material
is suitable for residential applications
For larger sails & commercial applications
a heavier grade of material is best
