AOAA (Annotations of an Autopsy)

Annotations of an Autopsy are a very blunt band when it comes to there style. They have unique style making them so popular within the area they play. There love for there music is apparent in how hard they work, how much they promote, and how often they play shows. The style of the band is hardcore, fun, slightly off the walls and all in all a youth targeted band. You hear this through there music, as its fast, loud, aggressive and very dark in some songs.

When it comes to engaging the audience this is a key thing, mainly as this is how you sell yourself and gain popularity as a band. They do this brilliantly, launching new merchandise monthly, playing shows, inviting fans to video shoots etc. With the genre they play its crucial that they keep there image going to the audience as a hardcore band.

The band have a got a clear distinctive style at first glance that is a big appeal to there fans, as with the youth culture, tight clothes, piercings, tattoos all over, is the fashion of the era of this band. So there look is a crucial part of them as a band, making them stand out, which fits perfectly with there fast aggressive style. What you see in this picture is not an extent of there wardrobe, as there always adopting slightly different styles of there n fashion clothing. Which is perfect for the band as they of new era style and classification.

A youth subculture is a youth based subculture with something different, such as a different music taste, or different dress style, or behaviors or interests in general. . This quote from Wikipedia backs up what I have just stated. “Youth subcultures are often distinguished by elements such as fashion, beliefs, slang, dialects or behaviors”

Some youth subcultures show a sort of systematic hostility or rebellion of kinds to the dominant culture and are described as counter cultures. Youth subcultures a re a way of individuals making themselves stand out or be different in a big way/small way. This is giving the participants a different identity to what you see at school or work or with parents/family.

A clear example of youth subcultures through the years is this one from a website called - http://www.toptenz.net/top-10-youth-subcultures.php below are some examples from the website.

Dandys / Flappers

Rockers Punks

Hippies

Gangsta

Grunge

These slightly flamboyant examples youth subculture are very accurate. This website offers a personal opinion on who and what resembles the genre/culture of the youth. It studies the different contrasts of the different lifestyles, dress style. This raises the important question, as to whether its done for true love, to be popular, or because its just a simple style to adopt???

Sterotypes

All teenagers are subdued to stereotypical behaviour, whether it be from friends, family, or people they have never met. They get judged instantly by how they act, dress, and portray themselves. All teenagers whether they know it or not are part of a label, and there music plays a big role in this. When it comes to my video, I will have to make it a strong stereotype, so that the audience can tell the genre and style of the music instantly. I want this to be clear in my video.

The research I have done on my band has allowed me to understand there style and look, meaning I can make the video relate to there style easily, and make it a clear stereotype. This will mean that the audience will understand there genre and lifestyle, I will do this by fitting the music of the band, there look and attitude to the style of the video. This will be clear in the 3 minute video I create.

Initial ideas for styling of music video…..

I'm intending to set my video around a typical post hard-core style video. I like the idea of filming it in a studio, with just the band, finding a proper rock n roll style, using just the band. If I stick to the stereotype of my band the video will be very effective. I’ve chosen to research some local bands, not mainstream bands.

Shot from a band called ‘Many Things Untold’s music video. This is a basic studio. All the members are wearing black dark clothing to match there stereotype.

The use of text is frequently used throughout the video for strong loud words, this makes them stand out. I will possibly adopt this style to my video. These are predictable and stereotypical effects used for a band of this style.

Initial ideas continued….Band style:T shirt, vests, band merchandise, skinny jeans, studded belts, belt buckles, flat peaks, beanies, dark clothes. Stereotypical to there genre.

Music videos:- Dark lighting, white room, shadows of the band while they play (harsh lighting).- Live performances include strobes, fast lights, an audience, a stage.- Narrative; using Goodwin’s techniques.- Colour techniques, e.g. sepia, black and white, Photoshop filters.

Filming:- Different shots used for different members. - Shots such as close up shots of members.- Long shots of the band and crowd.
