Introducing Convolution REVERB

Page 2: Rp Nick Sigma

CONVOLUTION REVERBS ARE IMPULSE RESPONSES OF REAL ACOUSTIC SPACES. THE IMPULSE RESPONSE IS CAPTURED BY GENERATING A KNOWN SIGNAL – MAKING A SOUND IN THE REQUIRED ENVIRONMENT AND RECORDING THE RESULT

Page 3: Rp Nick Sigma

• Impulse Responses are the digital feedback of sounds.

• Through a process of cancellation – adding the reverse of a signal to the original signal, such as reversing a gun shot sound and adding it to a gun shot sound the sound is cancelled out

Page 4: Rp Nick Sigma

• When you cancel out the sound of a recorded space you’re left with the reverberations

• Only now those reverberations are digitized algorithms

Convolution Reverb 4 Video

With the use of Convolution Reverb technology it is possible to recreate or even synthesize authentic sounds of Accoustic spaces.

Page 6: Rp Nick Sigma

• The convolution process effectively cross-multiplies the impulse response with the dry audio so that the end result is that the source audio sounds as though it was originally recorded in the real space

Which means that authentic sounds from various locations

can be produced from a production booth, or even your home

computer

• So, after much trial-and-error you're back in the studio with a gorgeous sample of a marble office building lobby, apply it to a lead guitar track for some serious ambience, and it doesn't work. Are you stuck with it?

Not at all. The current crop of IR-based convolution reverb developers generally includes a large set of after-the-fact editing parameters as deep as any of the higher-end black boxes of yore, with the same algorithms and user interface deployed for programming "conventional" hardware digital reverbs. So that marble room can be modified in size, length, amount of pre-delay, equalization, and so forth while retaining its original sonic integrity and character

So how much is it?

• There are many different kinds of software for Convolution Reverb

• While some are free and others could cost a few hundred dollars – they all tax your computer greatly and are not recommended for slow or obsolete computers
