Dr. K. S. Gopinath

Chairman,

Organizing Committee

Warm regards,

Welcome to the Knowledge capital of India-Bengaluru!

The theme of the conference is Insight... Innovation... Integration... and we hope to have some fruitful nd th thdeliberations during the 2 Indian Cancer Congress, November 8 - 12 , 2017 in this Knowledge hub.

The four major oncology associations of the country (Association of Radiation Oncologists of India, Association of Surgical Oncologists, Indian Society of Medical & Paediatric Oncology and the Indian Society of Oncology) have come together to organize the Indian Cancer Congress (ICC) once every 4 years. The first ICC was hosted in New

th thDelhi in November 2013. The second ICC is being hosted in Bengaluru, 8 - 12 November, 2017.

Apart from the above four major associations, there are several subspecialty associations which deal with cancer substantially: Gynaec-Oncology Association, Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, Society of Nuclear Medicine, Breast Cancer Foundation of India, NGO's and other health professionals involved in cancer prevention and control program. All of us will come together for ICC 2017. Little wonder that, while ICC-2013 saw a registration of over 4500, the ICC 2017 team is gearing up for a registration of over 8,000!!

Endorsements as Academic Partners by acclaimed oncology associations including ASTRO, ACOS, ASCO, IFHNOS, IBS, ABSI and several others, will ensure that ICC 2017 maintains high standards and becomes a major milestone in cancer knowledge dissemination in this part of the world!

We are also envisaging technical support from NCDIR, NCRP, ICMR, DST, DBT and other governmental agencies and institutions.

The theme of ICC 2017 is Insight... Innovation... Integration... The rapidly changing cancer scenario worldwide is providing new Insights into the causation, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of cancer; based on these insights innovative diagnostic and treatment techniques are finding their way into our clinics. Integrating cancer epidemiology data, innovative diagnostic and treatment techniques, basic sciences and molecular informatics into clinical practice are all driving the personalized cancer care paradigm. These are exciting times indeed for Cancer treatment!!

There has been an explosion of technology, techniques and knowledge in all fields of cancer care. The Exhibition area of over 50,000 sq. ft. available at the venue (Clarks Exotica) will provide an excellent platform for our industry partners to showcase these developments.

On the Scientific front, a veritable collage of academics is envisaged in ICC 2017. Apart from the standard mainstream therapies we also plan to cover a very vast panorama of cancer - from psycho-oncology to patient advocacy, policy making and education to molecular biology and genomics to personalised care; recurrent disease to treatment related morbidity - in a multidisciplinary approach through 8 ICC Orations, 16 Parallel sessions, over 50 Guest lectures, 30 Multidisciplinary Symposia, 24 Key note address, 160 Podium presentations and over 400 poster presentations!

Bengaluru is known as the Garden City of India. Its salubrious climate and cosmopolitan culture attracts large number of visitors from India and abroad. There are also many tourist destinations easily accessible from Bangalore. We do hope you will bring your families along and combine business with pleasure!! We are looking at organizing an extravaganza of cultural activities catering to the young and not so young; to Indian palates as well as our guests from abroad. You can rest assured on enjoying your evenings!

th thIndian Cancer Congress 8 - 12 , November, 2017 promises to be a memorable event for oncology!

On behalf of the organizing committee we extend a very warm and hearty welcome to you and your family to “Namma Uru, Bengaluru” (Our City, Bengaluru)!

Come! Join us in taking oncology to the next level.

About Bangalore

Bangalore, officially Bengaluru, is the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka. Bangalore is nicknamed the Garden City. Located

on the Deccan Plateau in the south-eastern part of Karnataka, Bangalore is India's fifth most populous urban agglomeration. As

of 2009, Bangalore was inducted in the list of global cities and ranked as a "Beta World City" alongside cities such as Dallas, Miami,

Boston, Kuwait City, Geneva, and Berlin in the studies performed by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network

in 2008.

It has a salubrious climate, and Cosmopolitan population. Availability of a very large pool of highly educated and talented work

force from across the country has seen the location of several major international IT giant in the city. Like-wise, the

biotechnology major, BIOCON has headquarters here. In terms of advanced education – be it in Medicine, Engineering, Space

Research, Science and technology, Bengaluru has top institutions of the country located here! At the same time, Bengaluru is

also a fun city, plenty of wonderful hotels, restaurants, pubs, and theatres, ensure that you party into the wee hours in a perfectly

safe environment. Plenty of places of scenic beauty and historical importance are within reachable distances. If you are a

enthusiast - well, there are plenty of options for you too!

Connectivity by Air: Bengaluru is extremely well connected to all part of the country as well as other Nations. It's relatively new

and modern Airport is called The Kempegowda International Airport and is 40 kms from the city centre, but excellent traffic free

routes ensure you can cover that distance in 40-45 minutes. However, the ICC-2017 conference site is about 20 minutes travel

from the international airport.

Local Transfers: If you are a Faculty of the conference, your travel from and to the airport, venue and the hotel will be our

responsibility!

For the delegates – if you choose to book in one of the conference recognized hotels as mentioned on the official conference

website, shuttle service will be arranged for the venue at fixed timings. However, please be aware that this is a logistic exercise

which might at times fail you. In such an unfortunate event, you could take the special buses going to airport and get off at the

toll gate stop. Shuttles from there will take you to the venue.

Bangalore also has a variety of taxi & auto services. You could call a GPS controlled Ola Cab 080-33553355 or Uber 1-866-576-

1039 for which you should download the respective app (if these services are present in the city you come from, within India, the

same mobile app will work in Bengaluru also). Taxis are available in plenty when you step out of the airport terminal. You can

directly walk up to the 'Airport Taxi' counter outside the arrival gate. These are GPS controlled and safe even in late night hours.

Please insist on a bill, when you get off at your destination. Pre/Post conference tourist packages are being prepared specially for

you and a few options are available on the conference website.

Weather: Bangalore experiences a very pleasant weather in the month of November. You may require a light shawl or a jacket/

blazer for men, particularly for the evening events. The average temperature in Bangalore in November is at 22.2 °C (71.96 °F).

The temperature may reach around 27 °C (80.6 °F) in the afternoons, whereas the overnight temperatures are much cooler with

an average low of 17.5 °C (63.5 °F).

travels to India. The Consular Passport and Visa (CPV) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs is responsible for issuance of

Indian Visas to foreign attendees. This facility is granted through various Indian missions abroad and hence we suggest you to

please check with the nearest Indian Consulate/Embassy as to your individual visa requirements. If you need documentation

from ICC 2017 to support your application, please do write to us well in advance and we will be happy to provide you with

assistance.

Delegates from Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, Foreigners of Pakistani Origin and Stateless persons, need to

apply at least 60 days prior to the conference.

Local Attractions

Bangalore Palace was built by Rev. Garrett, who was the first Principal of the Central High School in Bangalore, now known as Central College. The construction of the palace was started in 1862 and completed in 1944. In 1884, it was bought by the Maharaja of Mysore.

Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace was the summer residence of Tipu Sultan till his death in the year 1799 during the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War. Its construction was started by Hyder Ali within the walls of the Bangalore Fort and completed during the reign of Tipu Sultan in the year 1791. This magnificent structure has been built entirely with French Rose wood and stands adorned with pillars, arches and balconies. There is also a small museum in the palace which is open to public. Nandi Hills or Nandidurg is an ancient hill fortress of southern India, in the Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka state. Nandi Hills was called Ananda Giri meaning The Hill of Happiness. Nandi is also commonly called Nandidurga (Fort) because of the fort built here by the ruler Tippu Sultan. It is also perhaps called Nandi Hills because the hill resembles a sleeping bull.

The Vishveshwarya Industrial and Technological Museum is not a 'museum' in its classical sense, because it has interactive exhibits unlike stationary models of a museum. It is more of a "Science Centre". Each floor of this museum is dedicated to a scientific discipline. The museum attracts close to one million visitors a year. A serious visitor should be prepared to spend at least 3 hours in the Museum to have a glimpse of this treasure house of knowledge in the heart of Bangalore.

Lal Bagh meaning The Red Garden in English is a well-known botanical garden in southern Bangalore, India. The garden was originally commissioned by Hyder Ali, the ruler of Mysore, and later completed by his son Tipu Sultan. It has a famous glass house which hosts an annual flower show. Lal Bagh houses India's largest collection of tropical plants, has an aquarium and a lake, and is one of the main tourist attractions in Bangalore.

Bannerghatta Biological Park was carved out of the Bannerghatta National Park in the year 2002. It is situated 22 km south of Bangalore, Karnataka, India. This hilly place is the home for one of the richest natural, zoological reserves. The 25,000 acre zoological park makes this a major tourist attraction of Bangalore. The country's first Butterfly Park was established at the Bannerghatta Biological Park. The Butterfly Park is spread across 7.5 acres of land. It comprises a butterfly conservatory, museum and an audio-visual room.

Innovative Film City is a revolutionary concept in the field of entertainment. It is captivating the hearts of millions of visitors. It has an annual target of entertaining 6 million people per annum. IFC has today become the pride of the State and a prominent landmark inviting tourist from all over the country.

In and Around Bangalore

Mekedatu is a place where river Cauvery and Arkavathi meet; because this is the place of confluence of two rivers it is called Sangam. Located at a distance of 93 Kms from Bangalore; Gushing waters, imposing landscapes, and untouched picnic spots is what Mekedatu is all about. The Cauvery River squeezing through a narrow gorge before traversing its south-bound terrain is a breath-taking sight.

Bheemeshwari is a small town that lies between the Shivanasamudra falls and Mekedatu falls, on the Cauvery River in Mandya district of Karnataka. It is a great spot for eco-tourism and is a natural habitat for the mahseer fish found in the waters of the Cauvery. Nestled amidst the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, it is also known as the 'Angler's paradise'. Both professional angling and amateur fishing is encouraged in these nature camps.

Channapatna is famous for its wooden toys and silk. These two industries form the backbone of this town's economy. Spinning tops, dolls and figures of mythological characters are made from the soft, cream coloured wood of hale tree and given a lacquered finish. The products are popular across the globe, especially in Europe and elsewhere in Asia. It is located 60 kms from Bangalore.

Chamundi Hills, the home of Goddess Chamundeshwari is about 335 metres high, can be reached by a 13 km road from Mysore. The temple of Chamudeshwari, the patron goddess of the Mysore Maharajas, has been held high in reverence for centuries, associated with the Hoysala ruler Vishnuvardhana. In 1659, Maharaja Dodda Devaraja built a flight of one thousand steps leads up to the summit of the hill which is at a height of about 3000 feet.

The Mysore Palace is one of the important sights in Mysore. Built in Indo- Saracenic style with domes, turrets, arches and colonnades, the Palace is a treasure house of exquisite carvings and works of art from all over the world. The majestic Durbar Hall has an ornate ceiling and many sculpted pillars. The magnificent jewel studded golden throne of the Wodeyars is displayed here during the Dasera festival.
