2015 AWARDS SUPPLEMENT

DECEMBER 5 Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel, London

Welcome to the Aesthetics Awards 2015 supplement in which we will recognise and celebrate the fantastic achievements of our specialty this year. Here at Aesthetics, we are honoured to play a part in acknowledging the hard work and commitment that each and every one of you put in to the regulation, development and success of medical aesthetics. The Awards ceremony was a truly wonderful event, filled with glitz and glamour, and it was a pleasure to see so many of you in attendance! This year we had nearly 600 guests, a fantastic line-up of entertainment and all very well deserving winners. One winner in particular deserves a special mention; aesthetic nurse prescriber Liz Bardolph took home The Schuco International Award for Special Achievement, which recognises the outstanding work of an individual working within the industry. After a long and successful career in the NHS, Liz entered the world of aesthetics and worked extremely hard to campaign for regulation and improve the standard of treatment and care that we offer our aesthetic patients. I’m sure you’ll agree that our utmost thanks must go to Liz for her continued

commitment to our industry and many congratulations on an extremely worthy Special Achievement recognition. On behalf of the whole Aesthetics team, thank you very much to our category sponsors. Without your ongoing support the Aesthetics Awards 2015 would not have been possible – we look forward to working with you all again in the near future. Special thanks must also go to our judges, who kindly gave up their time to carefully consider all of our finalists’ entries. This year, the entry criteria was tougher than ever, making it extremely challenging for the judges to narrow down the Winners, Highly Commended and Commended finalists. Everyone recognised as finalists should be incredibly proud of their achievements in 2015, and I wish you all the best of luck with your aesthetic endeavours in 2016!

Congratulations and thank you once again,

This year, the Aesthetics Awards chose to support the international medical charity Operation Smile. With a global network of thousands of credentialed medical volunteers from more than 80 countries, Operation Smile is committed to helping improve the health and lives of children around the world. Since 1982, they’ve worked with local medical professionals, governments and hospitals to deliver care to patients, and have established care centres wherever possible to give children ongoing medical treatment. Operation Smile continues to provide training and education for local medical professionals so

they can administer care within their own communities and share their expertise. To date, they have provided a quarter of a million free surgeries for children born with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities. Thanks to your generosity, £2673.58 was raised during the Awards’ ceremony, all of which will be donated to Operation Smile. Sean McGuire, corporate partnerships manager, said, “All of us at Operation Smile express gratitude for your generosity at the Aesthetics Awards 2015. Your support enables us to bring the highest standards of medical care to children and families in some of the world’s most remote areas. Thanks to you and many others like you, we continue to heal smiles and transform lives around the world.” You can continue to donate to the charity by visiting www.operationsmile.org.uk

With nearly 600 guests and 24 winners celebrating the very best in medical aesthetics, the Aesthetics Awards 2015 was even bigger and better than before, securing its place as the premier aesthetics awards ceremony in the UK. Taking place at the stunning Westminster Bridge Park Plaza Hotel in central London on December 5, the ceremony invited guests to eat, drink, socialise and celebrate the high standards and fantastic achievements within the aesthetic industry this year. Twenty-four prestigious awards categories were designed to recognise Finalists, Commended, Highly Commended and Winners for their services to the aesthetics specialty. On the evening, special guests presented awards to the winners, who have each worked hard to represent the highest standards in clinical excellence, product innovation and practice achievement in 2015. Aesthetic business consultant and Awards’ judge Wendy Lewis flew in from New York to enjoy the evening. She said, “The Aesthetics Awards was even bigger and better this year and it has evolved into an important industry event for the UK market that should not be missed. It was an honour to serve as a judge again this year and the quality of the entrants and their responses continues to rise year after year.” Guests enjoyed networking with friends and colleagues at the pre-dinner drinks reception, before moving into the ballroom for a delicious three-course dinner. There, host for the evening and comedian Simon Evans, who has featured on shows such as Live at the Apollo and Mock the Week, delighted the audience with a hilarious comedy set, followed by the main awards ceremony. Compered by voiceover artist Peter Dickson, renowned for his work on the X-Factor, the ceremony began with the award for Cosmeceutical Range/Product of the Year, which was presented to the NeoStrata Skincare Range, distributed in the UK by AestheticSource. The company also celebrated a High Commendation in the Best Treatment Partner category for ProSystem Peels and a win for the team’s sales representative Caroline Gwilliam, who was recognised with The Janeé Parsons Award for Sales Representative of the Year, supported by

What the experts say...‘As a Clinician I need to know that the treatments we offer are safe, effective, scientifically based and fit in with our ethos of holistic care for our clients. 3D-Lipo has delivered this to us’ Dr Mohamed Dewji – GP & Medical Director LasaDerm Ltd (Milton Keynes)

Radio Frequency (Skin Tightening)Focus Fractional RF is the 3rd generation of RF technology. It utilises three or more pole/electrodes to deliver the RF energy under the skin. This energy is controlled and limited to the treatment area. Key advantages of this technology are high treatment efficacy, no pain as less energy is required, shorter treatment services and variable depths of penetration.

Cavitation (Overall Circumference Reduction)Cavitation is a natural phenomenon based on low frequency ultrasound. The Ultrasound produces a strong wave of pressure to fat cell membranes. A fat cell membrane cannot withstand this pressure and therefore disintegrates into a liquid state. The result is natural, permanent fat loss.

Duo Cryolipolysis (Superficial Targeted Fat Removal)Using the unique combination of electro and cryo therapy 20-40% of the fat cells in the treated area die in a natural way and dissolve over the course of several months. Two areas can now be treated simultaneously.

3D Dermology RF (Cellulite Reduction) The new 3D-lipomed incorporates 3D Dermology RF with the stand alone benefits of automated vacuum skin rolling and radio frequency.

“The first time you win – it’s great, the second time – you can call yourself a multi-award winning clinic!”Chris Gill, winner

Good Skin Days picked up the the Epionce Award for Best Clinic North England for the second year running. The clinic, which is based in Guiseley, West Yorkshire, was established in 2009 with the aim of providing exceptional patient service. Priding itself on a ‘warm and welcoming environment’ Good Skin Days proved to be the worthy winner with the judges, who awarded the clinic the title in this category. The panel was impressed with the clinic’s emphasis on ‘moving things forward’ with investment in new treatments over the past year, and the team’s objective to raise standards as high as possible. Managing director Chris Gill said, “This year has been absolutely fantastic. When we won, it was the first time in my life I’d ever been genuinely speechless. To win two years in a row is an absolute privilege. The first year you win – it’s great, the second year – you can call yourself a multi-award winning clinic! For the past year we’ve had countless members of the public come to the clinic saying ‘I came to you because you’re an award-winning clinic’.” Paul Edwards, general manager of Episciences Europe said, “Epionce were honoured to sponsor the Best Clinic North award. It was a privilege to show support towards the Aesthetics Awards who recognise high achievers in our industry.”

“It’s a real testament to my team, the dedication, their professionalism and I’m incredibly proud to be a part of that team”Dr Tapan Patel, winner

The Oxygenetix Award for Best Clinic London began with a touching accolade to Barry Knapp, the founder and developer of Oxygenetix, who sadly passed away in August 2015. The managing director of Medical Aesthetic Supplies Limited, exclusive distributor of Oxygenetix in the UK, Ireland and Middle East Territories, David Gower, paid tribute to the life and work of Knapp, which invited much applause from by the audience. Gower then went on to award the sought-after title to PHI Clinic, which scooped the trophy for the second year running. Medical director Dr Tapan Patel and the PHI clinic team were thrilled with the win. “I’ve got to be honest, we had such low expectations of winning, since we were so honoured to win it last year,” said Dr Patel, adding, “we understand it’s a very competitive category and the fact that we were nominated was amazing, and to win it was outstanding. It’s a real testament to my team, the dedication, their professionalism, and I’m incredibly proud to be a part of that team. Thank you so much. This awards ceremony improves every year and I cannot wait to come back next year!” After opening less then two years ago, the PHI clinic wowed judges again with it’s impressive customer base, wide range of surgical and non-surgical procedures, and its constant strive to improve and innovate. Gower added, “Oxygenetix and Medical Aesthetic Supplies are proud to sponsor the Aesthetics Awards for Best Clinic London. This is arguably the most competitive and highly prized of all the awards with very high quality entries. It is a tribute to the staff and management that PHI clinic was once again the winner of this award.”

Fieldgrass said, “We were absolutely delighted to win the AestheticSource Award for Best Clinic Group, UK and Ireland (3 clinics or more). We are a dedicated team providing the highest level of service to our clients and it is an honour to be recognised in the industry.” Director of AestheticSource Lorna Bowes, added, “It’s been great sponsoring, it’s given us the opportunity to talk to some clinics we maybe don’t normally talk to and it’s so nice to be able to support them. Having worked in aesthetics for more than 25 years, chair of the British Association of Cosmetic Nurses (BACN) Sharon Bennett was recognised for her experience and accomplishments when she was announced winner of The Institute Hyalual Award for Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner of the Year. She was one of the founding members of the BACN and is also lead of the British Standards Institution (BSI) committee for CEN European Non Surgical Standards, and achieved inclusion for UK prescribing nurses. Her win rewards her tireless work for the Nursing and Midwifery Council to recognise cosmetic nurses, while still running a busy clinic in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. The award was sponsored by Institute Hyalual and presented by managing director Dr Iryna Stewart, who said, “We recognise the big contribution aesthetic nurses make in the industry. We value their skills, knowledge and hard work.” Bennett, who was overcome by the win, said, “I love working, I love doing what I do, and getting an accolade is just fantastic. It means more to me that this category is judged, rather than being a public vote, as it’s based on what I do, the essence of me as a practitioner and everything I have tried to do for the industry. It’s also great for the BACN, which is all about being the best you can be, working ethically and responsibly, and ensuring patient safety is paramount.” She added, “To be recognised for that is fabulous!”

“To be recognised for my contribution to the field of aesthetics, was both unexpected and fantastic!”Liz Bardolph, winner

With no entry process, the Schuco International Award for Special Achievement came as a wonderful surprise to aesthetic nurse prescriber, Liz Bardolph. Chosen by the Aesthetics team, the special recognition was presented by the CEO of Schuco International, Paul Huttrer, who praised Bardolph for ‘working very hard to raise standards in many different ways’. Having worked in the aesthetics industry for more than 15 years, Bardolph was a founding member and first chair of the British Association of Cosmetic Nurses (BACN). After many years working for the NHS, she entered the world of aesthetics and was concerned at the lack of regulation of products and people within the industry. Bardolph has also served on a committee with the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), aiming to improve standards in aesthetic nursing, and contributing to policy development within the RCN and nationally. More recently, Bardolph has contributed to the development of the first Graduate Diploma Course for Aesthetic Nurses by assisting in writing the course material, and was an assessor for at the University of Greenwich. Bardolph said of her recognition, “I was delighted and overwhelmed to receive such a prestigious award. To be recognised for my contribution to the field of aesthetics was both unexpected and fantastic!” Huttrer, who presented the award, said, “Schuco was delighted to present Liz Bardolph with the Special Achievement award at the weekend. After co-founding the BACN and working hard to improve regulation on aesthetic products and people in the industry, she was a very well deserved winner. As Schuco work with many leaders in the industry such as Dr Tapan Patel and Dr Maria Gonzalez, we wanted to support the awards and the industry, and, for me, it was a great honour to present Liz with her award. The whole Schuco team had a fantastic time and it was wonderful to see so many inspiring people in one room. We look forward to next year!”
