By this time, I hope that most of you have seen (and shared and posted and
tweeted) the “This Is Lakewood” video. I extend my deepest appreciation to Val,
Airhead Media and all of the people on the video committee who worked so hard
towards an end product that the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce and the entire
community can be proud of.
As so many of us know, making good, quality entertainment isn’t easy. And
something that entertains, features the best qualities of a community, pulls your
heart strings, has good music AND tells a story...all in three minutes, is no small feat. Add in the fact
that the words “This Is Lakewood” mean so many things to different people and the process becomes
rather complicated. To some, Lakewood means a clean, safe place to live and raise your kids in a
century-old home. To someone else, it is the arts, music and theater. To others, Lakewood is a fun
place to go on a Saturday night. To yet another, it means great schools. Perhaps for you it means
operating a local business or restaurant. To many of us, it is being a part of something greater than we
are...a community.
It was a big challenge narrowing down all that Lakewood IS into three minutes. I truly hope that all or
some part of the video spoke to you and made you smile and feel proud.
Whatever Lakewood IS to you, one thing is undeniable; Lakewood is special. The people who play and
shop here know it. The families and young professionals who choose to move here know it and the
entrepreneurs who set up shop here know it. And, certainly to those of us who choose to be a part of
the Chamber of Commerce, we know it. I’m proud that This Is Lakewood.

The Economic Development Task Force is working on a business mapping project that lists business names and addresses in
Lakewood’s main business corridors. The next step in the process is to include property owner’s names to these locations.
The task force is also discussing hosting networking events for various business segments such as contractors, manufacturers and
industrial suppliers.

2016 is off to a great start for the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce!
The 2016 Speaker Series The 2016 Speaker Series The 2016 Speaker Series The 2016 Speaker Series kicked off in January with a most interesting presentation by Mr. Joe Roman, CEO and President of the
Greater Cleveland Partnership and Vice Chair of the 2016 Republican National Convention Host Committee. Andrew Tobias, report-
ing for Cleveland.com, interviewed Mayor Mike Summers after the luncheon and Mayor Summers said the city would commit to
providing 50 volunteers for the Host Committee, which is obligated to provide 8,000 volunteers for jobs outside the convention hall
as part of the successful bid that brought the convention to Cleveland. Stay tuned for more information about how members of the
business community might be able to get involved with this volunteer effort.
ChamberMaster. ChamberMaster. ChamberMaster. ChamberMaster. The Chamber has made an investment in 2016 to upgrade our
internal systems that will be of benefit to our members. We are in the process of
implementing ChamberMaster, a member management system that will help us to
better track and summarize all relevant data regarding our members. I am looking forward to having member activity, billing, and
contact information in one central database, synchronizing with our billing system, and integrating the software into our website.
(I know, I know, pretty dry stuff, but read on.)
From the member side, YOU should be looking forward to the changeover for these reasons:
∗ Every member will have their own listing. Visitors to the directory can easily search for you by category, keywords, location and
alphabetically.
∗ Improved SEO: the software will improve rankings on Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other search sites for the Chamber website and
member listings.
∗ Each member will have a personalized information page that lists key information, other contact details, website and
directions.
∗ Members will be able to log in and update their information, which automatically updates the Chamber’s database and online
listing at the same time.
∗ Members will have the ability to submit member-to-member ‘Hot Deals’, job postings, and ‘Marketspace’ entries (classifieds),
and news releases.
And more! Stay tuned for email notifications of these new features around mid-February.
This Is Lakewood. This Is Lakewood. This Is Lakewood. This Is Lakewood. A marketing project that has been in the works for over a year was finally
unveiled and launched on January 28th. In just the first four days “This Is Lakewood” has
had over 9300 views on YouTube and hundreds of ‘Shares’ and ‘Retweets’ on Facebook
and Twitter reaching thousands of people. The results are way higher than the committee
had expected and, in the non-profit marketing world, these numbers are a big deal!
We will continue the push the video via social media in the coming days, weeks and months to promote Lakewood as a great place
to live, work, play and do business, and to attract visitors to our town. Please help us in this effort by liking, sharing, and retweeting—
and be sure to use the hashtag #thisislakewood.
Although the video was made for the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, we encourage you to embed the video on your website. The
more views, the more sharing, the better!

Social Media exploded on the evening of January 28th with the video release of This Is Lakewood. About 75 invited Chamber members,
guests and sponsors were on hand to view the video, participate in a Q&A session and gain some social media tips to get the video
trending. Noting that creating a video needs a certain energy, “a Force” if you will, Chamber Board Chair Julie Warren sang an original
song about the video release to the Star Wars theme, with an assist from Darth Vader. The committee extends its special thanks to Beck Beck Beck Beck
Center for the Arts Center for the Arts Center for the Arts Center for the Arts for hosting the event, Fernando Lopez and Stephen Cinch of Airhead Media for the making of the video and
participating in the Q&A, and to Tom Leatherman for providing the music, sound & video projection!
