online and ensured they continue their excellence in activities such as international debating, mooting and
negotiation and mediation competitions. The batch also worked hard to create communities where they as seniors
would help train their juniors and use these activities as tools of empowerment for the students of the future.
The students have a diverse batch of people interested in different activities and different branches of law. The

The Internship and Placement Committee is a student-run body, which works under
the able guidance of its faculty advisors to help the students achieve their true
potential. The Committee works towards building new relationships and fostering the
existing ones with the corporate world, by understanding its changing requirements,
and matching them with diverse individual aspirations of the students. The Committee
provides a transparent, credible, and accountable setting between prospective
employers and the students. It is an integral part of the University’s education system
and contributes by organising various personality development and awareness
programs. It works tirelessly to secure internships and placements for the students,
which form an intrinsic part of law school education.
Cultural Committe
COMMITTEES
COMMITTEESRMLNLU aims at producing legal professionals equipped with the skills and vision required to succeed in the
professional world. The University has a dynamic student life with the students playing an important role as
members of various committees and organisations. The committees comprise various stakeholders, ranging from
faculty heads, administrative staff, and student members with each layer contributing to the attainment of the
committees’ objectives. The students and peers organise all the activities and events leading to the overall
development of students. Not only are these committees the best approach to encourage extra-curricular activities but
they are also an excellent way to instill the qualities of teamwork and leadership in the students.
Internship & Placement Committee
The Cultural Committee, Tehzeeb, captures the essence of the culture of Lucknow,
one of the major heritage centres of the country. The Committee has truly lived up to
the city's repute for the promotion of art and culture repeatedly. Besides encouraging
students to take part in cultural events all over the country, the Committee annually
organises a three-day-long cultural extravaganza 'OHR' and provides a platform to
the student community to nurture and showcase their talents in the fields of
dramatics, music, and art. It is also credited for organizing the inter-university
annual fest ‘Riwaayat’, which witnesses the participation of students from across the
country and provides a platform to talent and expression.
Progress in legal scholarship and policy academia necessitates exchange of dialogue
upheld with effective oratory. The Debate and Discussion Committee has been
endeavouring to cultivate an active culture of dialogue and discourse within the
University, ever since its establishment in 2008. Foremost events organized yearly by
the Committee include its flagship tournament - RML Parliamentary Debate, a legal-
themed niche - The Alternative Debate, and National Hindi Debate; witnessing quality
participation of students, scholars and professionals from across the nation and abroad.
Alongside, it organises year-long intra discussion and debating competitions, workshops
and meet-ups in order to provide a platform to the college students to develop, hone and
retain their understanding and skills.
Debate & Discussion Committee
Moot Court CommitteeThe University boasts of laurels secured by its students in national as well as
international moots. The Committee plays an important role in pushing the mooting
culture of the University towards excellence by organizing practice moots and intra-
University moot court competitions based on which various national and
international moots are assigned to teams as per their performance. The Committee
also organizes its flagship event, RMLNLU-SCCOnline International Media Law
Moot Court Competition that witnesses participation from both national and
international universities every year.

It is a very important part of legal education to think independently and to pen
them down in a manner that others may have an insight into them. The Editorial
team at the Journal Committee publishes RMLNLU Law Review and RMLNLU
Journal on Communication, Media, Entertainment and Technology Law. The
Committee is actively involved in collecting, editing, and improving academic
articles for both the journals. Besides this, the committee runs The RMLNLU
Law Review Blog and the University’s magazine, ‘The Lohiyan Post’. The
Committee also conducts workshops on legal research and writing and is also
responsible in organising the prestigious RMLNLU International Legal Essay
Competition.

Law is widely considered an instrument of social change and improvement.
However, the law becomes futile if the aggrieved are not aware of their rights or
do not have the means to avail remedies. The Legal Aid Committee is manifesting
the dream of our mentor Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya into reality by working for the
upliftment of the poor and downtrodden. Through camps and campaigns, the
Committee helps and increases awareness of these people while it approaches
leading lawyers to take up pro bono cases for those who seek such help. The
Committee works closely with lawyers and local administration to provide relief
to the needy. The Committee also promotes alternative dispute resolution
procedures by organizing the RMLNLU National Mediation Competition.
Legal Aid Committee
Seminar Committee
Incorporated in 2019, the Seminar Committee is the newest in the RML's portfolio
still it has made its significant presence among the legal fraternity due to its firm
resolve towards enriching academic culture in RML. The Committee organizes
Seminars, Workshops, Lectures & Murals for students with the ultimate goal of
enriching them with profound knowledge and wisdom. The Committee is also
entrusted with the organization of a very prestigious National level Seminar on
behalf of the University. In 2021, the Committee organized a Seminar on the theme
of Law and Technology in light of the rapidly changing nature of technology around
us and its pervasiveness. The Committee has also undertaken to educate the fresher
batch every year regarding the nuances of paper presentation and academic writing,
conducts a competitive Freshers' Seminar Competition "Athena."

LEGAL AID CLINIC
BLOOD CONNECTLUCKNOW

Legal Aid Clinic of the University was successfully put into operation
by the Legal Aid Committee on August 4, 2015, inaugurated by
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rakesh Tiwari, Senior Judge, Allahabad High
Court. In furtherance of the spirit of Article 39A of the Indian
Constitution, the Legal Aid Clinic is tasked with the responsibility of
providing easily accessible legal relief to the indigents and the
backward sections of our society. It works as a primary legal centre
where the Para-legal Volunteers (PLVs) from the University provide
basic legal assistance to the people. The thrust is on providing services
like legal advice and assisting in the drafting of notices, replies,
applications, petitions, etc. as per the mandate of the National Legal
Services Authority (NALSA) and provisions of Legal Services
Authorities Act, 1987.
Set up at the university main gate, the Clinic is open for two hours
every day. The clinic also conducts awareness drives at various
targeted areas in and around the city to educate people about their legal
rights and reach out to help them. One of the recently started initiatives
is Project RTI, which aims to fetch information about the various
government policies and organisations, as and when required. The
PLVs managing the clinic are selected through a two-stage recruitment
process. Trainee Paralegal Volunteers are also inducted through a
rigorous interview process to expose and sensitize them to the
significance of ‘Justice for all’.
The Clinic has received, in the past four years, a plethora of cases
ranging from property disputes to transgender rights. Cases related to
labour law, criminal law, and consumer disputes have come before the
Clinic. Several cases have been referred to an able pool of lawyers
working pro bono with the Clinic, and some of the clients were advised
to indulge in mediation.s
In addition, PLVs also work along with the Legal Aid Committee,
RMLNLU by participating in the LAC’s Shiksha initiatives, where
young, underprivileged children are sensitised to basic issues of law.
PLVs have also visited the Lucknow Jail under the Legal Aid
Committee’s Jail Project, ASHA initiative, where under-trial prisoners
are assisted with any possible legal help. The Legal Aid Camp
organized annually in a remote location on the outskirts of Lucknow
has also seen enthusiastic participation by the PLVs, to aid villagers in
both legal and non-legal issues
Social Responsibility Initiatives at the University encourage students to
imbibe the qualities of enlightened leadership, and thereby instil in them
a level of trust and confidence about themselves and the community.
Over the years, the students and faculty at RMLNLU have actively
participated in outreach program initiatives where they contribute their
knowledge, skills, and technical expertise to the community.
BloodConnect Foundation is youth
run organisation aimed at solving the
problem of blood shortage in India.
Launched on 1st April 2010 under
the National Service Scheme wing of
the Indian Institute of Technology
Delhi, the team has been working to
ensure a continuous and sufficient
supply of blood to government blood
banks across India. It has been
engaged in helping those in dire need
of blood through a dynamic, 24x7
helpline system, along with
spreading awareness about the cause
throughout the nation by establishing
a youth network to eliminate the
problem from its root and conducting
voluntary blood donation camps on a
regular basis. BloodConnect,
Lucknow is a relatively new team,
with its first RMLNLU inductions
taking place in 2016. Despite being a
relatively new team, Bloodconnect
Lucknow has been doing a
tremendous job at the National level
and most of the volunteers
(belonging to the University) have
contributed to BloodConnect in ways
more than one. From giving the
foundation its President, Executive,
Vice President and City Presidents (
all RMLNLU students),
BloodConnect Lucknow has come a
long way, saving hundreds of lives,
and has collected about 1000 units of
blood in Lucknow during this
pandemic itself.
Law schools across the country have, for long, been condemned for the lack of representation of students from
the non-elite groups. It is to address this issue that IDIA came into being, i.e. to provide the underprivileged
students with the required resources and financial help that they fall short on. The UP Chapter of the IDIA has
been actively getting students from all across the state of Uttar Pradesh and training them under its programme.
From accommodation to training and mock tests, the students are supported on every front during their
preparation. The chapter also organises fundraising events in the University independently and in collaboration
with the student committees of the University. The team heads to both Government and private schools of
Lucknow and nearby areas to sensitise the students and create awareness regarding CLAT and other competitive
law entrance examinations. Tackling the disruptions caused by COVID-19, IDIA volunteers raised to the
occasion and sensitised more than 500 students about law as a career option through online mode. The team
reached out to several schools across length and breadth of Uttar Pradesh and conducted virtual sensitisations in
over 20 schools. Even fundraising events were organised online to support the trainees.
The Legal Aid Camp is the primary initiative of the Legal
Aid Committee and the Legal Aid Clinic. In furtherance of
this endeavour, the students go on pre-camp visits in
various districts near Lucknow and identify problems of
the people living there. According to the problems
encountered, a district/village is chosen to set up a camp
and then in collaboration with District Legal Services
Authority, Block Development Officer, etc. legal help to
the residents of rural areas of our society is provided. The
Committee also provides for basic health amenities and
then this camp is succeeded by various follow-up camps to
ensure that the help provided has benefitted the people.
The Legal Aid Committee under the Shiksha
initiative collaborates with various charity
institutions, schools, and institutions working for
the welfare of the children and imparting basic
education. The topics are varied depending on the
age group of the children to be addressed and
include basic features of the constitution,
sensitization initiatives like road safety,
environment protection, and sanitation, etc. In
furtherance of this endeavour, the Legal Aid
Committee has collaborated with several
organisations during the past year.
The initiative was launched to foster research and
training in the police department. Under this
initiative, students and faculty members of the
University designed research activities for the
police officers and assist them in understanding
the relevant rules and regulations. It also aims to
help the investigating officers and police to update
their knowledge about legal issues while gaining
an insight into the jurisprudence of law.

PROJECT ASHALegal Aid Committee started a prison project namely
Project Asha with the help of District Legal Services
Authority (‘DLSA’) in which students from the university
visit the prison to make the prisoners aware of their rights
and duties. These students undergo classroom training in
law on prison rights and criminal procedure, in general.
This project aims to fight for the justice of prisoners,
where despite the offer of free legal aid, the benefits of the
scheme fail to reach many poor prisoners. The Committee
regularly sends some of its members to the Lucknow
Central Prison where they inquire about ongoing trials of
the prisoners and conduct a survey about other factors.
Based on reports prepared by visiting members, further
legal aid is provided in association with the DLSA.
RESEARCH CENTRES AND
SOCIETIES
The Centre for Criminal Justice Administration was established in the
year 2008. It aims to dichotomously promote students’ and researchers’
interest and influence in the academic discipline and practical application of
criminal law. Right from its inception, the CCJA collaborated with the
Bureau of Police Research and Development, Ministry of Home Affairs,
Government of India to conduct a series of training and sensitisation
programmes for Prison officials from across the country. CCJA also
organised several national seminars on issues of contemporary relevance
such as cyber crimes, terrorism, etc. In the year 2010 itself, CCJA
undertook a major research project to study the prosecution system in
Uttar Pradesh and its report submitted in 2012 made policy
recommendations for overhauling the prosecution apparatus. This research
project was sponsored by the Department of Higher Education,
Government of Uttar Pradesh. Further, under the aegis of the National
Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Government of India, CCJA
had organised a regional consultation of the states of North India for
making recommendations and suggestions on the draft Bill that was later
enacted into the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. In
collaboration with the Directorate of Prosecution, Uttar Pradesh, a series
of training and capacity building programmes were started by CCJA in
2011-2012. The CCJA is also working on a UNICEF-sponsored mega-
project since the year 2016 for strengthening Child Protection System in
Uttar Pradesh. The student members of CCJA are also engaged in
carrying out research and consultancy projects assigned by the Directorate
of Prosecution, Uttar Pradesh in the year 2019-2020. The Centre also
manages a blog that accepts academically-oriented submissions, both in the
sole discipline of criminal law or intertwined with other socio-legal
disciplines, on a rolling basis from members of the legal fraternity.

Conceptualized by Excellence Enablers, Finsec Law Advisors, and
Association for Development of Securities Market (‘ADSM’), the objective
of FILSIP is to simplify the financial sector laws in India. Originally
drafted a long time ago, or inelegantly drafted in recent times, the laws
require coherence and simplicity so that they are better understood and
easily complied with. FILSIP aims to simplify and rationalize these laws to
enable their better understanding by various stakeholders. The primary
exercise of FILSIP, i.e., simplification and redrafting of the financial
sector laws is executed by the student volunteers from our university
under the guidance of the Organisers. Aimed at the holistic development of
the students, FILSIP is a blend of knowledge-based and skill-based
education where the students inclined towards the financial sector are
committed to improve the state of the regulatory architecture and
contribute meaningfully to the financial laws. The project aims to simplify
the laws through repositioning of text, elimination of and by suggesting
changes to the existing regulations based on their understanding of the
law, economics, and the existing financial environment.
FINANCIAL LAWS SIMPLIFICATIONPROJECT (‘FILSIP’)

aspects of company law and its
allied fields, including
competition law and insolvency
and bankruptcy law. The
Society opens its doors to
students of all batches to
acquaint them with the core
concepts of the subject as well
as to update the students of
various amendments and
contemporary rulings. By
organising guest lectures, the
society aims to provide the
students with all-round
exposure to the current
scenarios and introduce to
students the subject through the
minds of various professionals
who have already established
themselves in the field.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
The Recruitment Process is conducted by the Internship and Placement Committee of the University. It is a holistic
process, which commences in the month of February, and is aimed at facilitating the reach between graduating
students and prospective recruiters. The recruitment process is governed by the Recruitment Process Rules, which
outline the duties and responsibilities of the Placement Cell, the Students, as well as the Prospective Recruiters.
These rules expedite the procedure to ensure optimal flexibility to the students as well as the recruiters.
The recruiters are encouraged to conduct pre-placement talks highlighting crucial principle features of their
organisation, job profile, terms and conditions of employment, remuneration, and other relevant information. The
recruiters are urged to indicate their preferred dates for such talks to the Placement Cell either by e-mail or
telephonic communication a week prior to their arrival.
In furtherance of the process, the organisations are requested to register themselves with the Placement Committee
with their preferred dates in the final placement schedule, by filling the recruitment form. The recruiters are at liberty
to determine their eligibility criteria and the policy for the screening and recruitment process. Organisations can also
opt for telephonic interviews and interviews via videoconferencing, and the Placement Committee shall facilitate their
process as and when required. In case the recruiters do not want to conduct a pre-interview screening, the CVs of the
interested and eligible students shall be forwarded to them, before the final interview. The Placement Committee
works to ensure that final recruitments are conducted in a fair and transparent manner so as to maximize the interest
of both the students and the recruiters.
