HEADPROTECTION

102

Essential and compulsory in most of the industrial works, head protection is something usual, but is not alien to research and improvement. Made to avoid shocks, soften falls, protect the electric arc, eliminate pressure or reduce risk of headaches, Sibol has known how to combine perfectly, in this products chapter, lightness with ergonomics and actual design.

Behaviour requirementsCompulsoriesImpacts absorption Striker fall with hemispheric head of 5 kg mass from 1m high. The strength

transmitted to the test head is less than 5 Kn.

Resistance to the perforationón Striker fall with hemispheric head of 3 kg mass from 1m high. Brog’s tip mustn’t touch the head of the test.

Flame retardant Applications of a propane flame during 10 seconds. The material exposed to the flame doesn’t have to burn 5 seconds after removing from the flame.

Points of fitting chinstrap They must resist a traction strength higher than 150 N and must slacken with a strength higher than 250 N.

Label The label can go fixed to the helmet, but it must keep its label readable after the conditioning test.

OptionalVery low temperature Impacts absorption and resistance to the penetration -20º C or -30º C.

Very high temperature Impacts absorption and resistance to the penetration 150º C.

Electrical properties EN 50365. This requirement ensures user protection during a short period of time against electrical active conductor with a voltage up to 440V. This standard is applicable to electrically insulating helmets used for working live or closet parts on installations not exceeding 1000V a.c. or 1500 V d.c. These helmets, when used in conjunction with other electrically insulating protective equipment prevent dangerous current from passing though persons via their head.

Lateral deformation Helmet maximum deformation won’t exceed from 40 mm and the lateral residual deformation won’t exceed from 150 mm after applying an incremented strength up to 430 N.

Molten metal splashes The helmet mustn’t be pierced by molten metal, show any deflection bigger than 10 mm or burn with flame emission after a period of 5 seconds timed when the flow of molten metal is already finished.

DefinitionsHead Protectors: sets made to protect the upper side of the

head against shocks and hits.

Electric arc: electric shock made between two electrodes sub-

mitted to a potential difference and placed into the bosom of a

rare gaseous atmosphere, normally at low pressure or at open air.

Skullcap: element of hard material and smooth finish which

made the external general shape of the helmet. the function is to

limit the shock damages.

Harness: full set of elements which constitute a way to maintain

the helmet on the head and take up kinetic energy during an

impact.

Chinstrap: strap that goes linked under the chin holding the hel-

met to the head and avoids the fall. this element is optional in the

equipment setting up, and not all the helmets have it compulsory.

Can be simple or with chinstrap. especially used in height works.
