Women’s College: At a Glance

Women’s College was established in June 1965 at the heart of

the capital. It was one of the Government Colleges in the North-

East India catering to the interest of the women folk of the state as

well as of the adjoining states. It is affiliated to Tripura University

(A Central University) and UGC, and was also accredited to B

Grade (Score : 2.61) during last NAAC visit in 2015.

Since its inception, this educational institution is playing pivotal

role in disseminating higher education to the women of the state.

Alongwith the students of general category, there are students

coming from tribal communities, backward classes and other

weaker sections of the society thereby making the institution a

miniature replica of the state itself. Thus, it has become a centre of

quality education for the students coming from every nook and

corner of the society. What attracts the most to any stranger is the

discipline maintained by the students. The teaching and non-

teaching staff of this college is also actively involved even in all

the co-curricular activities of the students. The dedication of the

teachers is worth mentioning to carry out their teaching-learning

activities for the upliftment of the girl-students of the college. The

passing percentage and the performance of the students each year

too is worth-mentioning. Many of them have outstanding

performance in their university examination.

The College has a glorious history of cultural activities. The

students and teachers participate in cultural programmes both within

the college and outside. In the arena of sports too, our students

have brilliant achievements. Behind all their achievements is the

tireless dedication of the teaching and non-teaching staff. NSS

and NCC cadres of this college have performed remarkably in

national, regional and state-level camps and parades. The college

encourages the students in joining these co-curricular activities

alongwith their regular academic activities.

The teachers of this institution are engaged in research and

related activities alongwith their primary objective of teaching. The

teachers of this college organize national seminars, work-shops

etc. They are also actively engaged in UGC sponsored Minor

Research Projects. This college has IBT Hub (Institutional

Biotechnology Hub), sponsored by the Department of Bio-

Technology (DBT), Govt. of India, which is one of the five Hubs

in the state.

A new science block has come up alongwith an administrative

block. From this current academic session, another academic block

will also be operational. All the science departments (both Life

Science & Physical Science) have developed modernized

laboratories well-equipped with latest and sophisticated instruments

with financial assistance from Department of Science and

Technology (DST), Govt. of India, University Grants Commission

(UGC), Govt. of India etc. Not only this, the teachers are also

busy in publishing their books and research papers from various

leading publishers regularly.

There is a distance education study centre of Tripura University

and a study centre of IGNOU in this college. This IGNOU study

centre is also offering several certificate courses for the students of

this college to facilitate education for those who cannot attend

classes regularly.

There was also UGC sponsored coaching centres for Remedial

classes and Entry into service primarily for the candidates

belonging to SC, ST and other backward class (OBC). Added to
