MEDIA RELEASE:RADICAL SR10: EVERYTHING YOU’D EXPECT FROM RADICAL – TURBOCHARGED

• The new benchmark for competition, motorsport country cluband trackday cars

• Lower running costs from a long-life 425bhp RPE-Ford EcoBoost engineand Hewland gearbox

• More real-time data, the latest dash electronics and optional powersteering create the ultimate driver’s car

Peterborough, Cambridgeshire (UK) – Thursday 17th September 2020;

With a high horsepower, long-life powertrain, the new Radical SR10 is everything you’d expect from a Radical – turbocharged. Targeted at track-day enthusiasts, motorsport country club members, and racers across the globe, the SR10 delivers more power and torque than has ever before featured in Radical’s SR line-up, with a new engine and drivetrain package optimised for both performance and durability.

The new SR10 is designed to keep you on the track for longer, faster. Whether lapping casually at your local motorsport country club, or dicing with GT and LMP competition in an around-the-clock enduro, the SR10’s sole purpose is to out-run and out-manoeuvre the competition whilst remaining easy to drive and cost-effective to run.

Demand from Radical’s customers for a turbocharged variant of our legendary SR line of Sports Racers propelled the new model’s extensive test programme, which continued behind closed doors throughout the UK’s COVID-19 enforced lockdown. Given the SR platform’s longstanding reputation for providing electrifying performance through optimised aerodynamics and outstanding grip, the primary focus was on maximising both the new powertrain’s incredible performance as well as its durability, for easier operation and long service intervals.

The SR10 applies Radical Performance Engines (RPE) cutting-edge engine tuning capabilities with the proven durability of Ford’s EcoBoost engine architecture. This is no ordinary production unit; as Radical’s in-house powertrain division, RPE have developed a bespoke turbocharger, induction and engine management package to release over 425bhp and 380lb-ft of torque from the engine. A bespoke Garrett G-Series turbocharger delivers better throttle response and reduced lag, with forged pistons and connecting rods and a bespoke dry-sump lubrication system for bulletproof durability.

This high-output engine is integrated with a new Hewland GT3-derived six-speed gearbox. The SR10 is Radical’s first application of the Hewland TMT transaxle, originally developed for the FIA F2 single-seater.

This compact unit includes an integral paddleshift actuator and innovative WaveTrac ATB differential for maximum traction in all conditions, and is a perfect match for the high torque generated by the 2.3L High Output variant of the RPE-Ford inline four-cylinder engine.

As recently debuted on the SR3 XX, the driver’s environment features a new wheel-mounted LCD multi-page display and additional car controls at the driver’s fingertips. On the SR10 this includes multiple engine and gearbox mapping options and adjustable weighting for the optional electronic power steering system, also a first for the SR model line.

“With the SR10 we’ve truly achieved our objective of creating a car with the visceral performance of our SR8 but in a longer life, more durable package, packed with the latest Radical data and electronics capabilities,” said Joe Anwyll, CEO of Radical Sportscars. “We’ve brought together the best powertrain technology from RPE, Ford, and Hewland to create a package with over 425bhp and 380lb-ft of torque, making the car both incredibly responsive and easier to drive.

“The SR10 expands on the class-leading architecture of the SR model line and gives SR3 and SR8 owners alike a great next level of Radical performance - wherever they use the car.”

The new Radical SR10 is available to order now with the first deliveries scheduled from October 2020. Indeed, with Radical having teased the SR10 to some of its most loyal owners, several deposits have already been taken for the first cars out of Radical’s Peterborough, UK production facility. Closely following the launch of the latest SR3 XX iteration in May, production at Radical has bounced back quickly post-Coronavirus lockdown. An intensive calendar of factory and dealer-supported track and race events into 2021 ensure Radical owners can enjoy their new cars to the maximum.

ABOUT RADICAL SPORTSCARS

Radical Sportscars is one of the world’s most prolific sportscar manufacturers, with over 2,200 race, trackday and road-going cars produced in the past two decades.

From its 1997 inception, Radical set out to create a customer-led niche in the world of motorsport, a race-bred thrill-a-minute driving experience on the race track and the road. A combination of lightweight construction, high output powertrains and aerodynamic downforce delivers models faster than a super car, totally driver focused and unbelievably rewarding to drive.

Entering its third decade, the Radical stable includes the 182bhp SR1 sports-prototype racer, the Nürburgring record-breaking 405bhp SR8, the road- and track-focused Rapture, plus the RXC Spyder, RXC 600R and RXC GT3. Earlier this year the SR3 XX was launched, the latest iteration of a model line in production since 2002, and Radical’s best-selling variant with over 1,300 sold worldwide to date. The SR10 has been solely designed, engineered and built at Radical’s Cambridgeshire headquarters, by 70 of the company’s 130-strong staff.

Radical was the first manufacturer to bring long-format, double-header endurance racing to club level motorsport competition while providing comprehensive spares and technical support. The marque’s official single-make championships around the world offer the ultimate driving experience and a progressive racing ladder for prototype-style sportscar racing for drivers of all abilities, while Radical’s ‘Race the World’ mission offers an end-to-end racing, training and support network across the globe.

FAQSIS THE SR10 PRIMARILY A RACE CAR OR IS IT ALSO A FUN TRACK CAR?

While the SR10 is built to the same high race specifications of all of Radical’s SR and RXC series cars, it is an ideal choice for those who want a car with extreme track performance, but who aren’t yet committed to full wheel-to-wheel competitive racing. The combination of the torquey EcoBoost based powertrain, together with longer service intervals make the SR10 the ideal car for avid track-day drivers, and especially for members of motorsport membership clubs, who have ready, sometimes daily, access to track driving.

Club members will especially appreciate the higher service intervals, club-friendly exhaust noise level, and quick start-up and warm-up procedure of the SR10 vs full race spec cars - but with all the performance. Unlike many race-bred sportscar alternatives, the SR10 has a generous two-seat cockpit which can accommodate two adults, making the car perfect for race training, corporate entertainment or simply exciting your friends and family.

WHERE CAN I RACE THE SR10?

The SR10 is eligible for a number of Radical’s single-marque championships around the globe, including the premier Radical Cup North America, and Radical Nevada Cup winter series in Spain. More information on classes will be released in due course. In addition to Radical’s track activities, the SR10 is also eligible for and competitive in a wide number of third-party sportscar and sports-prototype championships worldwide.

DOES THE SR10 HAVE ANY ELECTRONIC DRIVER AIDS?

Electronic power-assisted steering (EPAS) with adjustable, variable weighting is an option on the SR10, previously only available on the larger RXC platform. Engine and gearbox mapping strategy is adjustable from the steering wheel controls for different track and weather conditions, altering power characteristics and the paddleshift gearchange. Beyond this the SR10 remains a true race-car experience however, with unassisted brakes, and no ABS or traction control. The driver is in complete control for an unadulterated driving experience.

CAN THE SR10 BE MADE ROAD-LEGAL?

The Radical SR10 is conceived as a track-only product – many areas of the specification from the race lighting kit, high-flow exhaust system and race-spec belts and seating are not suitable for use on the road. Radical does however offer the road-legal Rapture – a similar package of Ford EcoBoost powertrain and track-derived aerodynamics, but with features that mean the car can be registered for the road in certain markets.

WOULD THE SR10 BE A GOOD CHOICE FOR USE AT A MOTORSPORT MEMBER “COUNTRY CLUB”?

The SR10 is an ideal choice for motorsport and track member clubs; indeed, the car was developed with these clubs in mind. With club member’s ready – sometimes daily – access to track driving and on-site garaging facilities, the SR10 is the ideal car for putting down lots of laps. The combination of the torquey EcoBoost-based powertrain, light weight, and highly developed chassis and aerodynamics means owners will leave their friends in GT based track cars disappearing in their rear-view mirrors. Club members will especially appreciate the higher service intervals and club-friendly exhaust noise level.

DO I NEED A RACE TECHNICIAN TO RUN THE CAR?

A driver-owner well versed in the provided operating procedures of the SR10 could easily run it themself for track days and club racing events. The Ford-based engine provides for quicker warm-up procedures than more extreme powerplants, and the enhanced data functionality like the optional Tyre Temperature and Pressure Monitoring System, mean that it is easier to run and set-up the car without a dedicated race technician.

IS THE CAR COMPLICATED TO MAINTAIN?

Not at all – as with the rest of the SR range, the SR10’s key servicing points and consumables have all be designed to be easy to access, inspect and maintain. The car’s advanced LIFE engine management system can be interrogated either by the user, or remotely by Radical’s technical staff, and the unstressed nature of the EcoBoost engine means long rebuild intervals are assured.

WHERE WILL THE SR10 BE SOLD?

The SR10 is sold worldwide, and can be purchased through any of Radical’s 30-strong dealer base.

WHERE WILL THE CAR BE BUILT?

The SR10 has been designed and engineered, and will be solely built, in Radical’s production base in Peterborough, UK. From here cars are dispatched by road, air or sea freight to our dealers across the globe.

WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO ORDER THE SR10?

The order book for the SR10 is open now. Please contact your local dealer for delivery timing.

HISTORY & MILESTONES

With a company name like Radical, you’ve got to offer something unique – a purely race-bred, thrill-a-minute driving experience on the race track and road, guaranteed to produce the widest of grins that will take many hours to erase .

That’s the successful formula that has driven Radical from day one, resulting in over 2,200 cars manufactured from our Peterborough base. From the very beginning, our approach has always been to provide a unique, customer-led niche in the world of motorsport, even as far as our own SR9 LMP2 racer campaigned with success between 2006 and 2011.

Our original brief over 20 years ago? Lightweight sportscars that utilised superbike technology. Faster than a super car, totally driver focused and intensely rewarding to drive - thanks to a combination of lightweight construction and aerodynamic downforce - we have paved the way in creating a bespoke powertrain system for a superbike-powered sports racer.

Aimed at not only the discerning club racer, but aspiring sportscar drivers and track enthusiasts too, drivers across the motorsport spectrum enjoy unmatched levels of performance and support.

The Radical philosophy extends much further than just the cars. Our Race the World mission offers an end-to-end racing, training and support network, across the globe. We were the first manufacturer to bring long-format, double-header endurance competition to the club racing scene, whilst providing a comprehensive spares and technical support team at every event, which continues to this day.

The iconic Clubsport model established the company in 1997 and it is still raced with enthusiasm around the world. Its success was immediate and full grids soon led to the Prosport, adding wings, more power and wider slicks, but we, the Radical team, were never going to rest on our ever-growing laurels.

In 2002 we launched the original SR3, a genuine two-seater, road-legal track car, that wowed both the media and track drivers all over the world. The compact SR4, successor to the original Clubsport, soon followed.

The awe-inspiring SR8, launched in 2005 and powered by the high-revving, in-house developed RPE V8 engine, brought Le Mans Prototype pace to the amateur racer. The SR8 went on to claim numerous outright lap records, including the highly sought prize of the production car record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The latest-generation 2.7-litre engine sets lap times comparable to LMP machinery, and continues to draw acclaim from established endurance racers the world over.

In 2011 Radical took the bold step of developing its first fully EC Type Approved, street-legal roadster the SR3 SL, followed in 2013 by Radical’s first closed-cockpit sportscar, the RXC and its open-top sister the RXC Spyder.

At the opposite end of the model spectrum, the SR1 provides an entry route to sports prototype racing with pace on par with a GT4 car. The SR1 Cup championship model continues to bring new racers into the sport, providing them with the skills to succeed in the highly-competitive motorsport arena.

Launched at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last year, the Rapture is true to its format as a race car for the road, and generates extreme performance via lightweight construction combined with aerodynamic efficiency, instead of relying solely on headline-chasing power and top speed figures. No other street-legal car available today offers the same percentage of race-bred DNA, making it the ideal choice for customers seeking a raw, exhilarating driving experience.

Now in 2020, the SR3 continues to be Radical’s most popular model, and with the latest XX variation its future within the Radical range is assured. Radical’s model line-up spans six models, meeting the demands of racers and trackday enthusiasts in four continents, so far.

As we enter our third decade with a fresh brand perspective, high-performance range and thrilling international championship portfolio, thousands of Radical owners - some of whom have been on our journey since the beginning - can’t be wrong.
