famous for its picturesque beaches, sunny weather, great surfing and million-dollar estates, Malibu has long been a

popular filming location throughout the years. Our renowned beach town has been featured in countless movies, television shows, commercials and music videos—even gracing the cover of the Beach Boys’ debut album, “Surfin’ Safari.”

Malibu’s cinematic cameos run the gamut from appearances in timeless classics like “Grease” and “Gidget” to modern-day blockbusters, including “Iron Man” and “The Fast and the Furious.”

Adamson House The stunning Mediterranean-style estate located along Pacific Coast Highway was formerly home to the wealthy Adamson family in the early 1900s. Now a National Historic Site, California Historic Landmark and public museum, the home is no stranger to Hollywood—including having been featured on an episode of “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

Bachelor MansionLocated on Kanan Road, this 7,590-square-foot Spanish style mansion, also known as “Villa De La Vina,” has been the filming location for “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” since Season 11 in 2007. Fans of the show may recognize the driveway, where the contestants on each season are greeted by the year’s chosen bachelor or bachelorette. The home has also been featured in several commercials and the hit show “Quantico.”

Annenberg Community Beach HouseThe Marion Davies Guest House, which is located on the grounds of the Annenberg Community Beach House,

is where the fictional Hamptons hotspot South Fork Inn—from ABC’s “Revenge”—is filmed. Originally a five-acre oceanfront property that William Randolph Hearst bought for his mistress, Marion Davies, the compound later operated as the Sand & Sea Club prior to reopening as the Annenberg Community Beach House in 2009. Today, it’s a public pool among other venues. The guest house also stood in for the Beverly Hills Beach Club on the second and third seasons of “Beverly Hills, 90210,” and served as the Malibu Sands Beach Club during the third season of “Saved by the Bell.”

Malibu BeachfrontThe house where Madeline (played by Reese Witherspoon) on the series “Big Little Lies” lives is a Cape Cod-style home, which was built in 1979. It sits on 80 feet of Malibu beachfront land and was also featured on Seasons 3-8 of the series “Diagnosis Murder,” starring Dick Van Dyke, as well as Seasons 1-3 of the Disney series “Hannah Montana.”

El Matador State BeachOne of the most visually stunning beaches in Malibu, El Matador State Beach, features stunning rock formations and sea caves, making it a popular spot for photo shoots and filming. Perhaps one of the most memorable movie moments ever shot here was one of the romantic scenes from “The Notebook,” in addition to “A Lot Like Love,” “True Romance” and “Valley Girl.” You might also recognize El Matador from Madonna’s “Cherish” music video.

Henman HouseBuilt by renowned architect Ed Miles in 1993, this residence, which features glass walls and a cathedral-like facade, is located on Mulholland

Highway and overlooks the Malibu canyons, Santa Monica Mountains and Pacific Ocean. This unique home is also where Britney Spears filmed her “Work B***h” music video.

King Gillette RanchLocated at the Malibu Creek Watershed off of Las Virgenes Road and Mulholland Highway in Calabasas, this sprawling ranch attracts history buffs and outdoor enthusiasts with its unspoiled views, hiking and 1920s architecture. It was originally built by King Camp Gillette, founder of the Gillette Safety Razor Company, who built a mansion on the grounds. Now a nature and wildlife reserve open to the public, the site became the filming location for “The Biggest Loser” starting in Season 4. Las Tunas Beach“The Hills” may be off the air these days, but many of us will never forget when Lauren Conrad turned down a Parisian summer internship with Teen Vogue, instead choosing to rent a beach house with then-boyfriend Jason Wahler. The home sits just east of Las Tunas Beach and was featured on the “Timing Is Everything” episode in the Season 1 finale, as well as at the beginning of the Season 2 premiere.

Leo Carrillo State ParkIt’s no wonder that Leo Carrillo State Park is an in-demand filming location. The scenic 1.5-mile stretch of beach is decorated with rocky cliffs, reefs, tide pools and caves, in addition to a picturesque park with hiking trails and views. The park is named after the late actor Leo Carrillo, who played the sidekick Pancho in “The Cisco Kid,” a western TV series. The opening scene of “Grease,” with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, was filmed on the beach, in addition to movies such as “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “She’s All That,” “The Karate Kid” and “The Usual Suspects.” “Glass House” was filmed in a home that overlooks Leo Carrillo State Park. It was also the backdrop for the touching final

scene of “Furious 7,” where the gang bid farewell to Paul Walker’s character.

Malibu Creek State Park Often referred to as “The Yosemite of Southern California,” Malibu Creek State Park has more than 8,000 acres of plains, savannahs and dramatic peaks, and was formerly owned by 20th Century Studios from 1946 to 1974. The park was the filming location for the legendary comedy series “M*A*S*H*,” and visitors to this day can still observe various props that were left behind from the show, among them the iconic signpost and vintage military vehicles. Countless other movies filmed here include “Planet of the Apes,” “Tarzan Escapes,” “The Left Hand of God,” “Love Me Tender” (starring Elvis Presley), “Pleasantville,” “California,” “What a Way to Go” and “Anchorman.”

Malibu PierThe ending scenes of action thrillers “Taken 2” and “Taken 3” were both filmed on the historic Malibu Pier, which was built in 1905 as a shipping dock. Ruby’s Shake Shack, which was featured in the second film, closed in 2011. In its place now sits the restaurant Malibu Farm Pier Cafe.

Malibu Sign Anyone driving along PCH will pass the Malibu sign located next to the highway, which has become a popular spot for people to take pictures and selfies. It was also prominently featured in the movie “Malibu’s Most Wanted.”

Neptune’s Net Originally established as Jake’s Diner in 1958, this local seafood spot was purchased in 1974 and renamed Neptune’s Net. To this day, it remains one of the most famous beachside restaurants in Los Angeles. A favorite haunt for locals and visitors alike, Neptune’s Net has been prominently featured in films such as “The Fast and the Furious,” “Losin’ It,” “People Like Us” and “Point Break,” as well as popular TV shows “Gossip Girl” and “The Hills.” Fun fact: The exterior

national historic Site, California historic Landmark and public museum, adamson house is no stranger to hollywood; it was once featured on an episode of “Beverly hills, 90210.”

of an existing Dania Beach restaurant in Florida was altered to look like Neptune’s Net for “Iron Man 3.”

Paradise Cove The charming Paradise Cove pier, which offers 180-degree views from Palos Verdes to Point Dume, is just a stone’s throw from the popular Paradise Cove Beach Cafe and the naturally formed cove, created by erosion. Although privately owned, the cove is open to the public and has made multiple appearances on the big screen. In addition to serving as the backdrop for the album cover of Beach Boys’ “Surfin’ Safari,” Paradise Cove has also appeared in “Beach Blanket Bingo,” “Gidget,” “Gidget Goes to Hawaii,” “Lethal Weapon 4,” “Monster in Law,” “The House of Sand and Fog” and “X-Men,” as well as on television shows such as “Charlie’s Angels,” “The O.C.” and “The Rockford Files.” Britney Spears’ music video “Sometimes” was also filmed on the pier, in addition to scenes from “American Pie 2” and “Indecent Proposal.”

Point Dume State BeachOne of the most popular filming locations in Malibu, this long bluff that forms the northern end of the Santa Monica Bay is a popular beach that has various cliffs and rocky coves. Its long list of film appearances includes “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me,” “Barton Fink,” “Beach Blanket Bingo,” “Bedazzled,” “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” “Planet of the Apes,” “Summer School” and “The Big Lebowski,” as well as television shows like “Charlie’s Angels,” “Entourage,” “I Dream of Jeannie” and “The O.C.” The fictional “Stark Malibu mansion,” where “Iron Man” character Tony Stark lives is depicted on Point Dume. The home was created as a 3D model and digitally imposed on the rocks during the film’s post-production.

Saddlerock RanchNestled high above the coastline is this unique 1,000-acre property, a popular wedding and event location with a

filming history that dates back more than 30 years. It has been featured on popular films and shows including “The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette,” “The Biggest Loser,” “Fun with Dick & Jane,” “Popstar” and others. The ranch also is home to a variety of exotic and domestic animals, including American and Asian water buffalo, camels, zebras, peacocks, a giraffe and horses.

Will Rogers State BeachOwned by actor Will Rogers in the early 1900s, the beach is now open to the public and is popular with local families and visitors for activities such as sailing and wind surfing. The scene where actress Deborah Foreman’s character in the movie “Valley Girl” first spots Nicolas Cage’s character was filmed on this beach.

Winding WayThis massive contemporary property was the home of “Big Little Lies” character Renata (played by Laura Dern). The 10,000-square-foot residence has also appeared on “90210,” “Brothers & Sisters” and “Revenge.”

Zuma BeachOne of the largest and most popular beaches in Malibu, Zuma is known year-round for its mild waves and clean sand. “Baywatch” was regularly filmed at Zuma, and Grammy Award-winning singer Taylor Swift also shot her hit single “22” here.

Malibou LakeBetween Malibu and Agoura Hills, nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains sits Malibou Lake. Filming on the lake has included “Must Love Dogs,” a “Modern Family” episode, “Frankenstein” and “Planet of the Apes.”

And these are just a few times that Malibu was featured. With a diverse topography that ranges from the dramatic coastline and deep canyons to its unique selection of local restaurants and historic homes, it will continue to make appearances on many films and television shows to come. n

annenberg Community Beach house is the fictional hamptons hotspot, the South fork Inn, from ABC’s “revenge.”

“California” (1947) with ray Milland and Barbara Stanwyck was filmed on 20th Century fox Studios’ 2,000-acre Malibu ranch (now Malibu Creek State Park).
