US State Department approval has been granted for
a planned $1.609 billion Foreign Military Sale to
Australia of up to four Boeing C-17As.
Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) personnel have
begun training on the C-27J Spartan battlefield
airlifter in the United States. This follows official
transfer of the first two aircraft to Australian military
markings.
The first Spartans are expected in Australia by mid-
2015 and a total of ten will be delivered over the next
two years to join No 35 Squadron, initially operating
from RAAF Base Richmond.
The final Royal Australian Air Force |(RAAF) KC-30A
multi-role tanker transport has been delivered to
Australia.
An Airbus Defence and Space crew flew the aircraft
from Spain, arriving at RAAF Base Amberley,
Queensland on the 24th February. It will now join the
other four KC-30As operating with 33 Squadron at
the base.
India
Boeing has delivered the tenth and final Indian Air
Force (IAF) C-17A.
Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) has gained a contract
to supply the Indian Air Force (IAF) with14 Do-228s.
India will purchase an additional Lockheed Martin C-
130J-30 Super Hercules as an attrition replacement
for the aircraft lost in a fatal crash on the 28th March
2014. India signed a $1.1billion contract on the 27th
December 2014, to procure six additional Lockheed
Martin C-130J-30 Hercules military transport aircraft
via the US Foreign Ministry Sales route.
A new light tactical transport will be acquired. This
programme covers the replacement of the Do228
and Avro 748M fleets by 2017 and the augmenting of
the An-32 inventory. The Alenia Aeronautica C-27J
Spartan and EADS CASA C-295 were expected to
compete for this requirement and India is reportedly
close to ordering 56 C295Ws to replace its HS 748s.
40 would be built in India.
India also has a requirement for new multirole
transport aircraft (MRTA) to replace its Antonov An-
32s. The programme is currently focused on the
development of a new platform knows as MRTA.
The programme involves HAI, Ilyushin and Irkut.
Under current plans the IAF is expected to acquire
around 45 MRTA and retain 70 An-32s, which will be
upgraded. This would leave a combined fleet of 115
aircraft compared with the current fleet size of around
168 An-32, Avro 748 and HAL (Dornier) 228 transport
aircraft.
Indonesia
PT DIRGANTARA Indonesia (PTDI) was to deliver
the first C295 locally-assembled in Bandung to the
Tentara Nasional Indonesia – Angkatan Udara (TNI-
AU – Indonesian Air Force) by the end of 2014.
The TNI-0AU ordered nine C295Ms in 2012, with the
intention that they would be assembled in Indonesia.
Ultimately, however, the first seven were built on
Airbus Defence and Space’s production line at
Seville-San Pablo Airport, Spain. This leaves just
one more aircfraft to be assembled in Bandung to
complete the TNI-AU contract.
A third former Royal Australian Air Force (RAAFC) C-
130H Hercules has been delivered to the Tentara
Nasional Indonesia – Angkatan Udara (TNI-AU –
Indonesian Air Force) at Air Force Base Abul
Rachmn Saleh, Malang, Java.
Under an agreement signed on July 2, 2012 four
retired RAAF C-130Hs are being donated free-of-
charge to the TNI-AU. Additionally, a Memorandum
of Sale between Australia and Indonesia for five more
ex-RAAF C-130s, plus associated equipment,
including a simulator and spare parts, was signed on
the 26th July 2013.
The TNI-AU wants two new refuelling aircraft to
extend the range of its 24 new F-16C/Ds. A likely
option is the A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport
(MRTT).

Our 12th annual event provides a unique opportunity for
the mobility operator and industry experts to convene and
examine ongoing and upcoming programmes, whilst
building and consolidating relationships within the
community.
This year's event includes a pre-conference base tour of
the 100th Air Refuelling Wing at RAF Mildenhall on 29
September. This site visit offers experiential learning for
our guests, who will be able to see the equipment in use
and gain insight on a practical level, with explanations
from the technical officers and subject matter experts on
hand. It is also a great networking icebreaker to meet with
other delegates and colleagues in a less formal setting
than the main conference.
Back down in London, the conference will examine how
Airlift remains the key capability for air operations that are
expected to cover increasingly demanding military,
logistics and humanitarian missions. Military and industry
experts are expecting plenty of international activity
around the renewal of transport fleets, modern capability
acquisition and the replacement of aging avionic systems,
in order to cope with the loads of today's operations.
Furthermore, in the absence of a major expeditionary
operation post the withdrawal from Afghanistan and Iraq,
it appears that the user is taking this window of
opportunity to modernise, resupply and prepare for the
next major demand.
Join us at Military Airlift 2015 in London and discuss the
following key issues with your peers:
• Models for achieving effective Pooling and Sharing
and the future of international cooperation
• Operational feedback from major platforms such as
the A400M, KC-390, A330 MRTT, C27J and XC-2
• Updates on pan-European Air-to-Air Refuelling
capability and assets
• The management of international air mobility
programmes
• The growth of the training sector and future
MEDEVAC requirements
