Australia

US State Department approval has been granted for

a planned $1.609 billion Foreign Military Sale to

Australia of up to four Boeing C-17As.

Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) personnel have

begun training on the C-27J Spartan battlefield

airlifter in the United States. This follows official

transfer of the first two aircraft to Australian military

markings.

The first Spartans are expected in Australia by mid-

2015 and a total of ten will be delivered over the next

two years to join No 35 Squadron, initially operating

from RAAF Base Richmond.

The final Royal Australian Air Force |(RAAF) KC-30A

multi-role tanker transport has been delivered to

Australia.

An Airbus Defence and Space crew flew the aircraft

from Spain, arriving at RAAF Base Amberley,

Queensland on the 24th February. It will now join the

other four KC-30As operating with 33 Squadron at

the base.

India

Boeing has delivered the tenth and final Indian Air

Force (IAF) C-17A.

Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) has gained a contract

to supply the Indian Air Force (IAF) with14 Do-228s.

India will purchase an additional Lockheed Martin C-

130J-30 Super Hercules as an attrition replacement

for the aircraft lost in a fatal crash on the 28th March

2014. India signed a $1.1billion contract on the 27th

December 2014, to procure six additional Lockheed

Martin C-130J-30 Hercules military transport aircraft

via the US Foreign Ministry Sales route.

A new light tactical transport will be acquired. This

programme covers the replacement of the Do228

and Avro 748M fleets by 2017 and the augmenting of

the An-32 inventory. The Alenia Aeronautica C-27J

Spartan and EADS CASA C-295 were expected to

compete for this requirement and India is reportedly

close to ordering 56 C295Ws to replace its HS 748s.

40 would be built in India.

India also has a requirement for new multirole

transport aircraft (MRTA) to replace its Antonov An-

32s. The programme is currently focused on the

development of a new platform knows as MRTA.

The programme involves HAI, Ilyushin and Irkut.

Under current plans the IAF is expected to acquire

around 45 MRTA and retain 70 An-32s, which will be

upgraded. This would leave a combined fleet of 115

aircraft compared with the current fleet size of around

168 An-32, Avro 748 and HAL (Dornier) 228 transport

aircraft.

Indonesia

PT DIRGANTARA Indonesia (PTDI) was to deliver

the first C295 locally-assembled in Bandung to the

Tentara Nasional Indonesia – Angkatan Udara (TNI-

AU – Indonesian Air Force) by the end of 2014.

The TNI-0AU ordered nine C295Ms in 2012, with the

intention that they would be assembled in Indonesia.

Ultimately, however, the first seven were built on

Airbus Defence and Space’s production line at

Seville-San Pablo Airport, Spain. This leaves just

one more aircfraft to be assembled in Bandung to

complete the TNI-AU contract.

A third former Royal Australian Air Force (RAAFC) C-

130H Hercules has been delivered to the Tentara

Nasional Indonesia – Angkatan Udara (TNI-AU –

Indonesian Air Force) at Air Force Base Abul

Rachmn Saleh, Malang, Java.

Under an agreement signed on July 2, 2012 four

retired RAAF C-130Hs are being donated free-of-

charge to the TNI-AU. Additionally, a Memorandum

of Sale between Australia and Indonesia for five more

ex-RAAF C-130s, plus associated equipment,

including a simulator and spare parts, was signed on

the 26th July 2013.

The TNI-AU wants two new refuelling aircraft to

extend the range of its 24 new F-16C/Ds. A likely

option is the A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport

(MRTT).

first of four Airbus A400M military transport aircraft

ordered by the Tentera Udara DiRaja Malaysia

(TUDM – Royal Malaysian Air Force).

New Zealand

New Zealand is still evaluating a Boeing C-17A

procurement.

Pakistan

A second-hand Gulfstream G450 has been acquired

by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

Philippines

There is a light airlift requirement for 3 aircraft to

replace the Nomad.

Two Ex-US Marine Corps C-130T Hercules are being

acquired by the Philippine Air Force (PAF) to add to

three Hercules currently in service.

Three C295Ms will replace three surviving PAF

Fokker F27 Friendships operated by the 221st Airlift

Squadron, based at Colonel Jesus Vilamor Air Base,

Manila-Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Delivery of the first Airbus C295M to the Philipine Air

Force was expected to take place before the end of

March 2015.

Taiwan

The Taiwanese MND has procurement plans that

include six C-27J cargo aircraft.

Thailand

The Royal Thai Police signed a contract in October

2014 for a CN235 which is expected to be delivered

in mkid-2016.

Vietnam

The first Vietnamese Air Force (VAF) Airbus C295M

has now been delivered. The VAF has three of the

type on order, the first of which was handed over on

the 17th October 2014 in Seville. The second for the

Khōng Qūan Vietnam (Vietnam Air Force), departed

Canada

Canada has confirmed that it is to purchase a fifth

CC-177 (C-17A). Minister for Defence Rob Nicolson

announced the decision on the 19th December 2014,

during a visit to Canadian Air Forces Base Trenton,

Ontario, the home of the current CC-177 fleet, which

is operated by 429 Transport Squadron as part of 8

Wing.

USA

Lockheed Martin has delivered another C-130J-30

Super Hercules to the US Air Force’s 61st Airlift

Squadron ‘Green Hornets’, part of the 19th Airlift

Wing at Little Rock Air Force Basd, Arkansas.

Lockheed Martin has gained a US Air Force contract

for the purchase of two MC-130J Commando, two

HC-130J Combat King IIs, three KC-130J Super

Hercules (for the US Marine Corps) and one C-130J,

plus two US Coast Guard HC-130 Js.

Boeing’s 747-8 airliner has been selected as the

platform for the next US Presidential aircraft,

commonly referred to as ‘Air Force One’. The new

aircraft will replace the two Boeing VC-25As – heavily

modified versions of the 747-200B – which reach the

end of their planned 30-year service life in 2017.

Afghanistan

Three former Ariana Afghan Airlines Boeing 727s are

to enter Afghan Air Force (AAF) service.

A requirements review is being carried out to

determine whether the Afghan Air Force (AAF) needs

the fourth C-130H Hercules that is being prepared for

delivery in the USA.

Algeria

An Algerian Government ATR72-600, the order for

which had not previously been announced, left on

delivery on the 12th December 2014. It is expected

to be operated by the Groupement de Liaisons

Aériennes Ministérielles (GLAM) as a VIP ministerial

transport.

Brunei

Brunei has gained US State Department approval to

purchase a single Lockheed Martin C-130J Super

Hercules. Currently, the only transport aircraft in

service with the RBAF is a single CN235M-110.

The Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAF) is also set to

acquire three CN235-220 aircraft from Indonesian

aerospace company PT Digantara Indonesia

(Persero).

Chad

A new addition to the Force Aérienne Tchadirenne

(Chad Air Force) is Antonov An-12BP 12148/TT-PAI.

This marks a further expansion of Chad’s transport

capability, which has been boosted by the delivery of

two new C-27J Spartans. Both were in service at

N’Djamena by January 2015.

Djibouti

Two of the recently retired US Army Shorts C-23B

Sherpa transport aircraft have been earmarked for

delivery to Djibouti. They will be donated free of

charge to the Force Aérienne Djiboutienne (Djibouti

Air Force).

Ghana

Ghana’s government plans to acquire a single Airbus

C295M transport aircraft from Spain. Ghana already

has two C295Ms in service.

Israel

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is looking at options

for offering nations a pooled aerial refuelling

capability based on the Boeing 767-300 Multi-Mission

Tanker Transport (MMTT) tanker conversion work of

its Bedek division.

With the B.787 now entering service in numbers, a

steady stream of donor B.767s is entering the market

16 D E F E N C E I Q

Our 12th annual event provides a unique opportunity for

the mobility operator and industry experts to convene and

examine ongoing and upcoming programmes, whilst

building and consolidating relationships within the

community.

This year's event includes a pre-conference base tour of

the 100th Air Refuelling Wing at RAF Mildenhall on 29

September. This site visit offers experiential learning for

our guests, who will be able to see the equipment in use

and gain insight on a practical level, with explanations

from the technical officers and subject matter experts on

hand. It is also a great networking icebreaker to meet with

other delegates and colleagues in a less formal setting

than the main conference.

Back down in London, the conference will examine how

Airlift remains the key capability for air operations that are

expected to cover increasingly demanding military,

logistics and humanitarian missions. Military and industry

experts are expecting plenty of international activity

around the renewal of transport fleets, modern capability

acquisition and the replacement of aging avionic systems,

in order to cope with the loads of today's operations.

Furthermore, in the absence of a major expeditionary

operation post the withdrawal from Afghanistan and Iraq,

it appears that the user is taking this window of

opportunity to modernise, resupply and prepare for the

next major demand.

Join us at Military Airlift 2015 in London and discuss the

following key issues with your peers:

• Models for achieving effective Pooling and Sharing

and the future of international cooperation

• Operational feedback from major platforms such as

the A400M, KC-390, A330 MRTT, C27J and XC-2

• Updates on pan-European Air-to-Air Refuelling

capability and assets

• The management of international air mobility

programmes

• The growth of the training sector and future

MEDEVAC requirements
