Two travellers, walking in the noonday sun, sought the

shade of a wide spreading tree to rest. As they lay

looking up among the pleasant leaves, they saw that it

was a Plane Tree.

“How useless is the Plane!” said one of them. “It bears

no fruit whatever, and only serves to litter the ground

with leaves.”

“Ungrateful creatures!” said a voice from the Plane

Tree. “You lie here in my cooling shade, and yet you

say I am useless! Thus ungratefully, O Jupiter, do men

receive their blessings!”

Moral

Our best blessings are often the least appreciated.

CELEBRATIONS GALORE AT GGSPSJC! Every teacher has upped their skill sets during this difficult phase. Although every institution is aware of the difficulties faced by teachers, it was surprising that even little children noticed this. What better day to show their affection and appreciation towards their teacher than “Teacher’s Day” which falls on 5th September! This day is specially celebrated in honour of Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan whose birthday falls on this day. The students of Guru Gobind Singh Public School wrote letters of appreciation, wrapped their emotions in poetry, made cards, and sent videos mimicking their teachers and a host of other things. Cards specifically mentioned why they like their teacher. The secondary students shot short videos and sent it to their favourite teachers. The entire class got together to even perform skits and sent videos of these skits to the teacher. Skits were performed individually and merged together. Going through all this, teachers had a difficult time containing their tears of joy and affection. Seeing the efforts of the children, the Principal appreciated not only the children but also the teachers on their hard work.

HINDI DIWASThe little children of our school turned out to be multi

linguists. 14th September is celebrated as Hindi Diwas across India to mark the entry of the language as the official language of the Union by the Constituency of India. To uphold the honour, children sang rhymes, introduced themselves in Hindi and some even said prayers and motivational songs in Hindi. The older children dressed up as famous Hindi Poets and Writers. They even gave speeches in Hindi which emphasised the need for the language to be learnt across India. The students of Secondary, participated in competitions like Handwriting Competition, Essay Writing and Doha. The topic for the Handwriting and Essay writing competitions were “Hindi Diwas ka Mahatva”. The Red House were the winners all round!

ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER 2021

GANPATI BAPPA MORYA!! The chant of “Ganpati Bappa Morya” reverberates not only across the city, but also across the state. Students of Pre Primary and Primary paid their obeisance to the Lord who is considered the Remover of all obstacles by putting to use their new found talent of “Cooking without Fire” and preparing Khirapat. They also sang Shlokas and Bhajans in praise of the Lord. The students of Primary also held various activities like making leaf Ganpati, favourite food, writing the names of Ganesha through calligraphy, and also sent videos giving information of the festival. This developed not only the innate skills of the children but also developed deeper respect and understanding of our age old traditions. Students of Secondary Section wrote essays on Pandal decorations, report writing regarding the favourite food, How to host the function in their colony in an Eco friendly way and last but not the least, children wrote on Festival Budget. Impact of Ganesh Visarjan on our environment. Some others prepared a PPT to show how the Ganesh Festival impacts the economy especially those of the Flower industry. Through these activities children get responsible, understand the value of following rules and also learn budgeting.

BRING ON THE BLUES!When one thinks of the colour “Blue” the first picture that comes to mind is the Sky and the Water. In an effort to emphasise the importance of water to the young ones of the Pre Primary, the section held a Blue Day activity. The day was celebrated online with children and teachers all wearing shades of blue. Children held their favourite toys of blue during the class and spoke about it. Some spoke about the colour itself – things which are blue in nature.

animals. They drew and coloured pictures with the theme

being blue.

MATIFIC JUNIOR MATH CHAMPIONSHIP

The Maths enthusiasts from Pre Primary to Secondary

section of Guru Gobind Singh School took part in the Matific Junior

Math Championship. A total of 168 students enrolled themselves by

the 31st of July 2021 following which children were handed their login

credentials. Each day they were given hundreds of games which

involved their topics of studies and more. Addition, Subtraction and

Fractions turned out to be just a sleight of hand as the games

progressed from one level to other. Children were hooked on to it

trying to score their best. The practice rounds were conducted on 9th

and 10th of August where the youngsters and adolescents could see

the live ranking as they played which actually helped them to up their

game. The final exam was held between 11th and 13th August 2021.

Our kids outdid themselves by 46 students securing the Gold Medal,

34 of them secured the Silver Medal and 30 of them procured the

Bronze medal. Maths indeed is fun reiterates our young ones!

ART AND CRAFT WORKSHOP – PRIMARY In an effort to constantly develop and nurture the various skills

of children, GGSPS arranged a workshop for the students of Primary

Section. The topic was Multipurpose Vase Decoration. The whole class

involved using waste material like – Plastic bottle, old newspaper, lace,

broken clips etc. The students were asked to enrol themselves and a

WhatsApp group was formed. A list of ingredients required, time, date etc.

of the class was sent in the group. Students joined online. Our in-house

activity teacher, Mrs Kavita Nalegaonkar , demonstrated the procedure to

make the vase step by step. Students took keen interest and followed her.

After partial completion the vase was left to dry for 2 days, after which the

second half of the class, of decoration took place. Children sent in the pictures of

their finished products and parents sent in appreciative messages. It was a day

of learning and fun for everyone.

coaching her. She has pirouetted through her schooling with great passion and done well in dance and schooling. During this pandemic where most kids of her age would yearn to go out, Shravani Raut spent her time innovatively to enhance her dancing skills. The school guided her to apply for the State Level Dance competition which was being held by the K.K. Wagh Foundation. Our own Dance Guru, Dhiraj Vajre Sir guided and coached her during this time. He also coached her after school hours seeing her interest and ability to achieve her dreams. Ultimately our dance enthusiast came out with flying colours by bagging the First Prize. She also received a cash prize of Rs1101 and a trophy. This recognition has boosted her morale. The entire institution is proud of our little danseuse.

medals in total. Are 7 medals sufficient for a country with

population of 130 crore?

In India, Sports is seen as a hobby and not a field to pursue

career by a lot of people .We Indians just want gold medals in

Olympics, but we want our children to focus on academics.

India doesn’t lack in Talent but it lacks in support and

motivation that needs to reach the Olympics. Every child here

knows about Sachin, Dhoni and Kohli, which is good but what

about other games? Many of us don’t know the legendary

player Dhyan Chand, do we? Major Dhyan Chand is

considered as the God of India’s National game ‘Hockey’. He

won 3 gold medals for India! Despite all his contributions he

faced a lot of financial problems and died of liver cancer in

AIIMS, Delhi. Why all the name, fame and money to just

cricketers? Champions like Major Dhyan Chand have to face

such difficulties because of weak infrastructure facilities ,

corruption in India and no proper funds allocated for them

.People often say India is a poor country and it has less to

spend on sports . But where does this poverty go when we

have to build big statues, which is of no need. Also, schools

focus more on academics than sports where there are just 1

or 2 sports periods a week. Schools should teach students

the importance of sports in one’s life and also motivate the

students.

People in India have slowly and steadily started appreciating

other games, however still a better uplifting and motivation by

parents, educational system and also the Indian

Government, is required to pull up various other sports in the

country which are not into the main stream.

India in Tokyo Olympics won 7 medals in total which has

broken the record of India itself in terms of number of medals

in Olympics won by India till now, but it got just 1 gold medal

and that’s not sufficient for a country like India. As our gem,

Milkha Singh said, “Hard work, will power and dedication, for

a man with these qualities, sky is the limit.” India will surely

tackle all these problems and come up with

Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!

FUTURE OF SPORTS IN INDIA

Today, in the whole country there is

discussion of India’s exceptional

representation in Olympics, which was

represented by Niraj Chopra, Mirabai

Chanu, Bajrang Punia, P.V. Sindhu and

more who with their hard work and

dedication won medals for India. But what if Niraj Chopra who

won a gold medal for India, was a 13 year old child and was

wanting to choose sports as his career. What would have you

told him?

Surely, if such incident happens in our Indian society we say

that sports should not be seen as a career and you should

focus on academics. This is the mind-set of 9 out of 10

Indians. Then how could you expect more medals in

Olympics? Till now India has won 35 medals across 24

Olympic Games. In Tokyo Olympics 2021, India won 7

MATH IS EVERYWHERE!

Chi ldren acqui re sk i l ls and

knowledge easily if we make the

surrounding st imulat ing and stpurposeful. In the 21 century, the

Digital revolution affects us all.

Quite simply, i t is changing

everything: a brilliant overflow of

information, entertainment, companionship and education is

speedily available. In such surrounding when work and effort

is valued, the child's self-esteem is heightened, and from this

results self-motivation.

To instil a love of Math in young children an entire week was celebrated with fun filled, mathematical and interactive activities to achieve a wide range of objectives related to knowledge skills, application, attitude, appreciation, interest and values.

This was a chance to show how important Math is to everyday life; we all need to use Math and that is something to enjoy, promote and celebrate. Mathematics is powerful language. It is an expression of human mind, reflects active will, the contemplative reason, and the desire of aesthetic perfection. Students experienced how Math is not just some problems in a book in school- it's everywhere! From football fields, to the cost of shopping in the supermarket, from the bus timetable to the capacity of a bottle of water – Math is everywhere we go!

DEVELOPING CREATIVITY AMONG CHILDREN!!

The most powerful way to develop creativity in students is to be a role model. Children develop creativity not when you tell them to but when you show them. The teachers you most remember from your school days are not those who crammed the most content in to their lectures. The teachers you remember are those whose

thoughts and actions served as your role model. Most likely they balanced teaching content with teaching how to think with and about that content. Efficacy can be built among children by giving them a strong base for creativity. The main limitation on what students can do is what they think they cannot do. All students have the capacity to be creators and to experience the joy associated to with making something new. Sometimes teachers and parents unintentionally limit what students can do and imply limits on student’s potential accomplishments. Questioning assumptions and eventually leading others to do the same is another way of developing creativity. Those who questions assumptions allow for cultural, technological and other forms of advancement. Promote creative performance by encouraging your students to define and redefine problems and projects. Creative thinking can be encouraged by having students choose their own topics for papers or presentations. Creativity can be stimulated by helping students to think across subjects and disciplines. Teach children to deny the idea that learning takes place in discrete boxes the math box, social studies box or science box. But creative ideas and insights often results from integrating material across subject areas.

EARTH IS CALLING : AN ENDANGERED ANIMAL SPECIESDear students, an endangered animal is one that is at risk of becoming extinct or the risk of no longer being in existence. We know that near about 900 species of animals have become extinct according to latest IUCN Red list. Dinosaurs are the largest group of animals to have ever

become extinct. Other creatures to have become extinct are dodo birds, mammoths, and sabre-toothed cats. Endangerment of animals is occurring at an alarming rate due to environmental changes, the destruction of habitat, the shortage of food supply, and being hunted .Due to human intervention, global warming and many reasons the species, animal, plants are decreasing.

Which is not good for human beings and for mother earth. Need to conserve the Nature, earth and total animal kingdom through personal activities and through community program. We can change the situation by following some easy steps in daily life. On personal level try to avoid the product made from skin, teeth, horns or various organs of animal. Try to be Vegan, use reusable items and product, plant tree, produce less waste and e- waste. Individualistic efforts may lead to big

Children should be allowed time for creative thoughts. By building in time pondering, you show students that time spent thinking is valuable. Ask questions that require recall, analytic thinking and creative thinking. Do not limit creativity to written assignments. But by asking stimulating questions in the class. Ask them to imagine, suppose, create, invent, hypothesize and speculate. Any time you ask your students to go beyond the information given, you offer them an opportunity to be creative!!
